Hawk Performance Cermaic pads definitely cut down on the brake dust but I don't believe they bite as well as the standard pads. This is fine given I'm not out auto-crossing or anything on them... prefer the lower maintenance.

 

my hawk ceramics bite great and have basically zero dust. Would highly recommend.

 

I also agree on Hawk Ceramics. Lower dust and they work just as good as stick pads.

 

Just got a call from the dealer.

They got the authorization number and have ordered four new calipers.

 

Wow, that's great.

 

Well that mechanic got fired.

 

Definitely not a promotion. But, I bet they never let a car leave the shop again without double checking the fluid is cleaned off the calipers.

Expensive lesson learned.

That's a great resolution for an issue that is purely cosmetic. Of course you should expect them to be careful when working with brake fluid, but 4 new calipers sounds like they're really going all out for you. I am impressed.

In the dealer's defense, I have dribbled (ok, spilled) brake fluid onto calipers before and never had a factory finish spall and bubble like your calipers. If the factory PCCB calipers have an issue with the finish, that's not 100% the tech's fault. He should, of course, be aware that the PCCB calipers are susceptible to this. I'll bet he remembers it after this job.

And if the dealer had to "get authorization" to do the replacement, then Porsche is paying for at least part of this repair and it's not all on the dealer. I wonder if that coverage was strictly goodwill or if Porsche recognizes the PCCB yellow calipers have a substandard finish and they cover this more often than we know?

 

There is a lot going on here. Great to hear you are getting this resolved to your satisfaction. I fully expect those PCCB calipers to fall off the truck before they make it back to Stuttgart for post mortem analysis. Keep an eye on the rennlist Marketplace folks....sorry for the cynicism.

 

This is why I use dealers. Everyone is prone to screwing up on occasion. Dealerships are more prone to stand behind their work and make it right.

When the car is up there getting the calipers replaced I’ll probably have them flush the coolant system out. I looked at all the records and I don’t see anything flushed from 2011 on. I was going to have them do it next year but since it will be there a while...might as well.
