Anyone have a place/person they would recommend?
Have heard a range of experiences with 997 glass being installed, looking to do it right the first time around.

Mandatory glass coverage, right? My insurance allows any glass, any installer to be 100% covered. I had all OEM seals, glue and window put in, but by a guy who works on a lot of classic cars. If I had to do it again, I might just go to the dealer. He took a week, probably my fault for saying "no hurry", and the glue around the rain sensor in the rearview mount is not absolutely, perfectly round. Probably no one but me would notice. PM if you want his info. He can do onsite, but he's gonna lecture you about letting the car sit for a day or two before you drive it.

I'm okay with the car sitting so long as the job is 100% to original specs.

Safelight in Redwood City. Had horrible experience with Safelight in San Bruno - don't go there.
Redwood City did a great job. I was talking to a fellow customer at Safelight while waiting - he had a high-level Merc. He told me the Merc dealership used Safelight - Porsche may be the same (with markup, of course). Make sure they order OEM glass. The Chinese glass is terrible in my experience.

I used these guys to do my windshield on the 911. OEM glass all the way. Took like an hr and we just met at the local Porsche dealership where they did it in the parking lot to make it easy for everyone.

I would stay well away from Safelight, which is pushed by many insurance companies. They do a lot of ads on TV that show the happy owner driving right off after the work, which is a very bad idea if
you want the sealant to set.
Do a quick search of this forum and you will see lots of stories about Safelight.
Make sure that the glass and the gasket are all OEM, even if you need to pay a few extra dollars. There are lots of good shops in your area. Do a search on Yelp.

I've been in the glass biz a LOOOONG time, approaching 4 decades at 53 years of age, yes, started in my teens, including auto glass for 15 years (no more though)
Go OEM no question
East bay I have recommendations
Safelite used to have a bad, very bad reputation. But I have found that they do have some "skilled technicians" working for them.
Ask for the tech with the most experience. Also, check the high quality auto glass shops in your area, usually they are small independents working out of their house. As much as I hate to say it, Yelp works too.

Only let Porsche handle this. You do not want a wavy aftermarket not sealed correctly glass. Wind noise would be noticeable if not sealed correctly. I told Statefarm that I only wanted Porsche to do the job. I sent them the estimate then they tried to shop around and no one would take on the claim so they approved this estimate. See below.
Hello Mr. Clinton,

Adhesive for windshield itself: $371.66
Total parts: $1490.75
Labor: $842.70

I've had the unfortunate need for windshield glass replacement many times. My insurer USAA has sent me to the RC Safelite over the years, and I've gone there on my own when the cost was below my deductible. Have had nothing but good experience with that RC shop.
