I know that the topic of C2 vs C2, and C2S vs C4S was discussed so many times in the past. I'm now in a unique situation of evaluating between 997.2 C2S and 997.2 C4 Targa that have the similar mileage & price. Both are super clean, and I am torn. I like the additional horsepower of the C2S, but I like the uniqueness of C4 Targa. I like the side profile of the C2S, but I like the rear profile of the C4 Targa.
Strictly in terms of the resale value (I switch cars all the time every 2 years), what would you recommend?
I imagine C2s. I'm sure someone who really tracks sales prices and data can chime in. I can't imagine there's a lot of base targa cars. That could have been for a reason. I'm all for the targa bar, but your right the c pillar on a 997 targa just kinda throws off the cleanliness of the lines. The 964 and the 991 were beautiful. I bet the targa sales were tanking since the 993 and they figured the bar was a must, changes the whole look for the better if I had to say. I'm sure 991v targa sales reflected it.
No targa bar on a 997.2 targa - the return of the targa bar and that fancy power roof didn't happen until the 991 Targa. The 997 2 targa is just a very large and heavy glass sunroof.
C2S is lighter with a lower center of gravity. Also, handling of the RWD C2S is more playful and the steering feel more pure without the front wheels both driving and steering.
The rear hatch of the targa is a nice convenience for loafing stuff unto the car, but the rear windows coming to a point instead of the famous curve is not as nice a side profile look.
Deal breaker on this one is that the C2 is an S and the Targa a base model. I'd get the C2S, and why I have 2 of them.
I agree with Petza, and have a T4. The rear hatch is very handy. With respect to performance, if you check the specs, the 0-60 times for the Targa 4 is only .3 seconds slower than a C2S. For most this would not be an issue in my humble opinion. I do not regret my purchase at all as I am not a track focused driver 😊 2010 Targa 4

Very clean Mike, beautiful car and wheels. If I had to say besides the GTS the next most desirable one would be the manual coupe 4s. It's not like the 993, where all s models were wide regardless of drive configuration. Apples for apples the prices seem to say so a bit.
I agree with you on the hierarchy of desirability 100%. The C2S and T4 base prices are only $100 apart, so to the original post he would have to decide on desirability/asthetics/utility, not price as he said the prices were similar 😊 just my 2C lol
