i just want to know if this uneven level of soot is uncommon among 997.2 owners? It seems some take it as a serious warning sign while some others ignore it as normal...
You’ll get the same varied answers here as you will in other forums. Most will probably say it’s a bad sign that there’s some cylinder scoring going on, while some few will say just keep driving it. Porsche technically says up to 1.5L per 1000km or 1.6 quarts per 622 miles is ok per below while others will say those figures are outrageous, and that Porsche only says that so that they don’t have to deal with warranty repairs. The only way you will know for sure is to have it scoped, and even then, if they find some scoring, some people will still say rebuild the engine while others say you can drive it for a long time like that, and that all engines will have some form of scoring at some point. Lol.

If you don’t clean them they will look the same after a while. Iirc the left side on a 997.2 represents cyl 123, unless you have Center muffler delete x over pipes. Cyl 456 are on the right side. Cyl 6 bore scoring typically occurs on 997.1 cars. On 997.2 cylinder 1 seems to be the problematic one in a few documented instances which is left side tail pipe on non modified exhaust. That being said 1 litre / 1000km does seem high as many .2 burn little to no oil. It is within the range.

I am amazed how little oil my 2010
997.2 S uses. I had the oil changed
during my 40,000 service and have used
less than 1/2 quart since. I am at 46,500
miles now. When I drive it, I like to
be in the upper rpm range of the car.

It's fine. Soot can be many thing. Oil consumption and oil analysis is all you need to look at.

There are companies like Blackstone you can send a sample taken during an oil change.

You're 1,500 miles past when you should have already changed the oil again if you want to keep oil consumption on that engine low like it is now. Yes, I know the manual says 10,000 miles or something ridiculous like that. If you do UOA you'd know just how ridiculous that interval is based on metal wear, viscosity, and TAN/TBN numbers.

Question: Are people saying that soot on both pipes is generally not concerning but soot on one pipe is very concerning ?

This seems somewhat illogical to me, but maybe I don't understand well enough what causes soot in a non-bore-scoring scenario.
