Oil really only needs to do one job - maintain it's viscosity to keep metal parts sliding past each other without wearing them out, so maintain proper viscosity for the engine's operating temperature range and show as little metal wear as possible.. If the viscosity is too low, the metal wear will suffer.

Wear metals, contamination, add pack, detergents, and oil life were / are in the green; if the viscosity had degraded to the degree that you are concerned, I imagine it would be reflected in the UOA report.

Please keep in mind the disposition of Hootsama's post, to which I initially replied.

I changed out Mobil at 1200 miles after I heard about concerns and have used Driven since. Here’s my OA showing the same issue with viscosity.

@alaris my UOA report showed an increase in fuel dilution as well (after switching to DT40). Not sure why.

Would love to see some UOA comparing DT40/DI40 if anyone has.
Does anyone have a reference to or quote where @Charles Navarro /LNE is now recommending DI40 for the M97? (The LNE website is still recommending DT40 or FR50. (https://lnengineering.com/oil.html ) I've written to LNE but no response yet. It's oil change time and I want to get the current best/recommended oil.

Take a look at this thread:
