I have the same sentiments as others here. As a forty something who could afford a GT3 or 991-992 whatever, I’ve realized my 997.1 is more than enough car to scratch my sports car itch. I don’t go to the track, but do try to get out early on a weekend morning for a spirited drive, and tend to use it as my “weekend daily” - runs to Home Depot for misc stuff, Costco (amazing how much these will hold) and long way jaunts to grab breakfast for the family. It does fly under the radar for the most part and I’m comfortable parking it just about anywhere I go. I consider selling every winter while it sits in the garage under a cover and on a charger. I consider selling it to upgrade or simply to pocket the cash, but in the end, one drive convinces me that I won’t ever part with it. A cliched as it is, there is something special about these cars that numbers can’t describe.

 

"As cliched as it is..." A Porsche 911 cliched????? I can't think of a statement that is further from reality than that.

 

The bandwidth of the 997's is phenomenal - when I asked the folks at the local main dealer here about the best daily the answer was - 911. I queried this by asking about a Cayenne or Panamera - the sales guy gave me the "you don't understand" look and re-iterated "911". Between the 97.1 C4S and the 997.1 GT3 I currently have I can't think that you could find a more complete and immersive Porsche experience at ANY price point. All of the cars have some compromise but these two together tick all the boxes... Utterly brilliant!!

 

They are special, no doubt. But the statement of “special” is indeed cliched.

It helps that yours looks so dang good! Widebody, aerokit and sport design spoiler, along with nice wheels and stance, make it look so much more comparable to a GT3 vs. the typical neutered feminine 997 look.

My favorite 997 is the Sport Classic. That is carrera perfection right there.

Seriously though, every few years when I got an itch and wild hair to spend $80-100K, I decided instead to do something nice for my P-car rather then get something new and shiney.

 

Depends on whom you ask. Air cooled 911 owners will laugh at this thread. To me, my 997.1 C2S feels just right. It still has an ol skool feel but with mildly modern technology and analog is many places. I would still love to build an air cooled 911.

 

Owned my 997.2 4S manual for about 6 or 7 years now and it still remains special. I have to say it is one of those “total package” cars that has all the bases covered. The widebody 997 is the best looking 911 out there other than a 993 turbo. Add in the perfectly balanced interior (not the busy panamera interior of the 991+ and not the lower rent 996 interior [not bias as I own a 986!]) Hydraulic steering plus a great motor. Only negative is the stock exhaust note that is easily remedied.

I figure with a recession looming the market value of the 997 along with all sports cars (and I own 5 sports cars) will tank - yet I still really want to keep my car even if near term I can probably cash out high today and buy in lower, at least temporarily, in a year.

Something about the car makes it a long-term keeper, more than other generations (other than 993!)

My Favorite 997 and what I modeled my cars looks after. This was a nice review. Journalist is impressed with 997's that he has not really spent time in. His first experience in Porsche ownership was with 981.2 and 991.2
