Sunroof stuck/popping

Sunroof stuck/popping
Recently my sunroof on my 997.1 is getting stuck and then popping when it is in the full up or vent mode. When it reaches it max extended setting it will visible and audibly pop. I tried a relearn on it but it did not fix the problem. Anyone ever have this happen?

I believe if you "reset" the sunroof it can possibly remedy your issue.
Sometimes a problematic sunroof motor can cause weird issues like you are describing.
I had issue with my 1st 997 sunroof having to be raised in rear with the switch, then lowered with switch then it would slide back properly. Would not slide back unless I did this procedure.
Turned out it was a bad sunroof motor and I had to replace it.
Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I did the relearn/reset. I feel like it fixed it but the next time I started the car it was acting up again. I’ll give it try a gain and try and take note of that behavior. It sounds like the memory is on the motor and this sort of thing is an indication that it’s bad : (

I had the same sunroof issue in one of my 996's as the one I described above - That also turned out to be the sunroof motor.
If your car is from a hot climate, sunroof gets used more frequently and craps out sooner.
The motors aren't very expensive and I can;t remember how much of a PITA the install is but I believe the access is easy thru the zippered opening if I remember correctly.

I did another relearn. This time I did it using the tilt button. It went through the positions and it’s working properly now. If it acts up again it is the board on the motor.

Press and hold the tilt button until it fully extends, then release and press again. Hold the button and don’t let go until it completes its movement cycle. This can be done for both the tilt and open function.
if it does not retain the settings then you supposedly have a bad motor logic board.

I replaced the motor today. Fairly straight forward process. Hardest part is getting the motor out. The trick is to rotate it then slide the motor end into the head liner so you pull out the end with the connector first.
Once it was all back together run it through the learn process. So far so good, true test will come over the next couple of rides.
