Couple things to check out. IMS and bore scoring. Read through the buyers guide. It's there for a reason. But def get and invasive PPI.

S models have the 3.8 liter engine that does not suffer ims issues except for the very earliest models:“S” Engine (3.8) has designation “M97”, can have the smaller IMS or revised larger IMS bearing:

Engine (3.8) number up to M97/01 68509790 has the older IMS bearing and Engine number from M97/01 68509791 has the larger revised IMS.
Bore scoring can be an issue. If its a cold weather car or one exhaust pipe side is much dirtier it is more likely.

Larger revised IMS = less prone to failure?

Much less prone to failure than the original smaller bearing BUT not fail proof as some here still keep saying. There are documented IMS failures of all 997 models 2005-2008. The larger bearing introduced mid or late 2005 greatly reduced the failure rate but not by 100%. Close to it though. Didn't reach the 100% fail proof distinction until 2009 when the new DFI engine was introduced which didn't have an IMS bearing to begin with.

On a S model I would be most concerned about over revs. If you plan on a ppi make sure they check for this. If you aren't (or can't) get one of these and do it yourself:

For a 4S, it'd also be good to make sure the PPI checks out the inner and outer CV boots on the front axles. It's a bit of a job to replace them.
