So my indy calls me first thing this morning...
Yesterday he did my 80K service. Checked my AOS, cylinder scope (all clean), checked water pump and idlers also. Axle boot in front (r) is torn and slinging grease so I have him replace it.
Everything done, all good. I tell him I have a leaking washer fluid reservoir but I will DIY it. He says he could have done it while it was up on the rack. No biggie. I drive it home.
This morning at 7:30am phone rings and I answer knowing who it is.
Indy - "Have you left the house yet?"
Me - "No"
Indy - "I have a new oil drain plug on my bench and I can't verify that a new one went on your oil pan, but we always keep spares. Yours had a small crack around the shoulder. They can shear off from thermal cycling and then the plug backs out. I didn't sleep well because I was worried about it. Could you bring it back in so I can check it? Sorry for the inconvenience."
Me - "Sure no problem, let me call you back after I look at my calendar"
I found a hole in my schedule and called him back.
Me - "How about 11ish"
Indy - "That's perfect and I ordered the washer reservoir grommet that usually goes bad so I will just handle that for the inconvenience"
I thank him and take the car down there (after checking for an oil leak...). Turns out he did replace the drain plug after all and now my washer reservoir is fixed too!
He apologized again for the inconvenience. I told him that his phone call probably earned him a customer for life because any mechanic that cares that much about their work and their client deserves my loyalty.
Thought I would share something positive.

Boxtaboy - I hear whay you are saying. I for the most part like my Indy because he is the one that works on the car and is a P specialist and is very informative to me, but I am not always happy with his billing. Currently diagnosing/resolving PSM Failure light and sticky brake pedal issue. His first action was to flush and bleed my brakes ( was done about year ago by another outfit that was doing my alignment at the time so was not due for it and (over)charged me for it yet it did not fix the problem (to validate the bill he said I did have air in three lines? ) I had to bring it back. He is changing the brake light switch ,which, had he at least "googled" would have had some direction (plus it did come up on the scan!) from the various forums (I think that they are too proud to do that) and go that rout first before doing the brake flush.
So I get you - who do you use, or should i say are you happy with yours? I am in north central Jersey. No one I've used in the last 15 years would I rate a ten - no wonder so many DIY, I just don't have the time and patience.

For simple stuff like oil changes and brake fluid change, I am lucky that I have some good Porsche pals who help me with them, but for larger jobs, I have been going to a stealership which of course is expensive. I have heard of a couple local indys that are decent, but haven’t tried them yet.

Can you let me know who they are? I need a back up, my guy is getting ridiculous with his billing, stealership prices and I pay for his misdiagnosis. But he is logistically convenient and is there when i need him and ultimately gets it done. You can PM me if more comfortable with that. Much appreciated.

Back when I had my NSX, my tech was factory trained from Honda but worked for and independent shop in Houston. Though he never owned an NSX he loved them and loved working on them like they were his. This earned him a huge majority of Houston based NSX owners as customers. One rarely finds a tech that puts his heart into his job.

the shop here called and said my car was ready to get picked up, when I got there my car was sparkling clean inside and out and they detailed the WHOLE thing
when I asked them why they said they LOVED my car so much they didn't know what else to do so … lol
