I am heading out of town this weekend to take a look at a 997 for sale a couple hundred miles away. It is listed as a 4s, the car fax is clear. When I do a build sheet vin decoder, it shows 2wd, launch model etc. It should be something pretty easy to verify but caught me off guard. Any explanations of the build sheet?
When I’ve seen discrepancies between a listing and the build sheet, it’s usually ended up that either the listing or included VIN is wrong. Do you have photos of the car that you can use to check this out? It seems like a good idea to confirm all of this before taking a big trip to see it.
I will check this out. The build sheet was one of those randomly vin generated build sheet so I wasn’t sure how accurate they are.

I think you can tell the C4S from the C2S either by the badge on the back or by the body-style: wide-body for the C4S and narrow-body for the C2S. This is very noticeable at the rear wheel arches.
In my experience the majority of the time the VIN/build sheet is correct and the person listing is wrong. And IIRC none of the launch models were 4S's.
It looks wider in back but he has the GT3 body kit on it. I ran a vin decoder through the
and below is what it showed.

It is weird because it does look WB to me and I see red brake calipers peeking out. At the same time, this car looks like someone modded it and put it back to stockish to sell. The reason why I say this is the non-OEM wing and the somewhat odd stance with those aftermarket wheels.
I bet its a base model and a previous owner upgraded the brakes for track use, with other guys going bigger im sure a spare set of brembo s calipers could be bought kinda cheap for a a great upgrade. But it makes you wonder track use?? Get a DME and If you can't understand it post it here, one of our wise men will explain it to you make sure you know what your getting into. just my 2cents.
I know a lot of people are Porsche purist and I can appreciate that. I like the looks of the kit and from the Carfax, it looks like it was regularly maintained.
I have been out of the car scene for a while and getting back into it. I used to have a crazy Camaro Zl1. Fun car but there will always be someone faster and I am not trying to be the fastest car anymore lol.
I am capped at 30k for a car and while I like C6 Z06’s, I have always wanted a porsche. I was five minutes from scoring a deal on a 996 about a year and a half ago.
How noticeable is a S vs the base? The difference between the 4 and rwd is probably more preference.
if anyone knows and nice 997 under (preferably under 28k) let me know. This one has been posted a few times and I have been keeping track of it. A guy tried to sell it on consignment for too much and then it was repo’d from my understanding. He is asking 27k for it. Thoughts?
Also, it is my understanding the the IMs bearing is a non issue in 2006? That correct? This was built in 2005 as a early 2006 car.
Wing is an ad on but from my view it looks like a Carerra 4 wide body which is standard on the all wheel drive 997. The also come stock with
the single rectangular exhaust tips as opposed to the S and 4S that have the dual round tips.
