Default Mobil 1 Porsche A40

Does Mobil 1 5w-50 give comparable protection as Motul, Driven, or Liqui Moly oils?

It's on sale https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mob-122075/overview/

Doubt it. What are it's Zinc, Phosphorus, and Moly levels?

As long as its A40 approved then it should be fine. ZDDP isn't the only way to pass the tests. I know plenty of people who are running mobil 1 without issue.

I do UOA on all my changes and the Mobil 1 additive package breaks down sooner than either Motul 8100 xcess or Driven DT40 lowering the viscosity.

Understand there must be numerous (operation) variables, however - have you been able to more closely identify when (mileage range) that the Mobil 1 begins to lose its effectiveness? How many miles do you go on Motul 8100 prior to changing it?

Thanks.

In as.few as 3,000 or 3,500 miles you could see the Mobil 1 breaking down. The Motul and the Driven both looked better at 5,000 miles.

Motul is a decent sized company no? Why is it that you can’t buy Motul oil in a local autoparts store like Autozone or O’Reilly’s? I don’t want to have to order it by mail from Amazon or a specialty shop. I look on their website for their “dealers”, and they’re all local garages and stuff. WTF?

Just keep 20 quarts in the cabinet and don't worry about it. The online sources will ship for free on certain sized order. I do the same thing with the Driven lubricants I use and order from Summit or LN. Usually Summit since it ships out of the GA warehouse and I get free next day delivery.

Makes sense and thank you. I’m just old fashioned and like to be able to walk into a store like Autozone or Pep Boys, etc and see it on a counter and bring the darned oil home with me the same day. Why can’t they get their oil on the shelves of a retailer?

Box stores cost money and mean the manufacturer has to share profits.

5 quart jugs of Mobil One 0-40 isn't always available at Wal-Mart but it is on line ... And it's cheaper by $3 a jug and you get free shipping.

Plus - you never know what kind of "deals" competitors (of Motul and other brands not offered) have made with a retailer. Incentives for what may amount to exclusion of competing brands altogether.

Most motorcycle stores carry it and can order any particular weight or type without issue or long wait times if you like myself don't like Mobil 1 .... Castrol Syntec can always be found as cheap or cheaper than Mobil and it's better oil than Mobil . I normally like Motul or Liqui Moly but Castrol is good oil for the $$

Costco has Mobil 0w-40 all the time. 5l jug for $23 or so mostly. I was looking for 5w-40, so skipped past it. Currently I'm using Motul bought off Amazon. I haven't seen them stocked up in shops nearby, and in any case it's usually much cheaper to buy online these days
