Default Is it possible to add sport chrono package to used 997?

Hello. my father has recently purchased a used 2009 997 series II. He likes the car but realises he may find it even more exciting with the sport chrono package. Would it be remotely possible to add this package to a base model? Or is it simply out of the question. I understand the difficulties in achieving this feet but wonder if its been done.
Thanks!

Yes you can add the sport button. If it's a manual, it doesn't do a whole lot. For the pdk, the difference is dramatic.

If you wan the timer on the dash, you'll have to source a new dash. But to add the button and its accompanying features, yes it is easily done. Your dealer can install and perform the PCM programming.

As stated above, if you have a manual it shortens the travel of the gas pedal to full throttle, but otherwise doesn't do anything particularly special in terms of performance (without PASM suspension from the S). Combined with PSM off (which is never fully off), it will allow a bit more slip before intervening, but the grip is massive on the rear end of these cars, so you've got to put alot of english into it to hit that limit. For the PDK transmission, it is highly recommended to improve shifting performance.

It’s more critical for PDK, but lots of 6MT guys would consider SC a must have.

OP - do a search, there are several threads on this topic.

Manual or PDK? Most agree sport chrono is an absolute must with PDK but different opinions about the value of it with a 6sp manual. Whatever he has it can be added. About $1,100 as I recall it. Won't get the timer on the dash though but no big loss. Have yet to hear of anyone who actually used it.

I think this summarizes it nicely: (from a 6speedonline thread by user topspd):

Sport Chrono for 6MT in the 997.2 is the “same as the PDK but minus the launch control and speedy auto shifts.

So with sport button on;
- quicker throttle response
- hard RPM limiter vs. soft then hard (as revs approach redline, soft limiter pulls timing first)
- larger limits allowed before PSM steps in
- switches PASM to firm without having to hit both buttons”

OP, you have us on pins and needles...is your dad’s car manual or auto?

It is an auto good sir, (sorry for not adding a lot of detail, I'm new to porsche and forums in general). However, with the information I've sourced as well as what I have heard from this, it is clear it can be done. I will be contacting my local Porsche dealership tomorrow to find what path I must take to make this a go. I would also like to mention I am in Australia. I don't think this changes a whole lot, although our market is quite a bit smaller compared to the USA.

Ive also realised I haven't stated the full model, it is a 2009 911 Carrera s Cabriolet 997.2 with the PDK and w/ out the Sport Chrono package.
Sorry for the limited details

For the PDK forget the timer on the dash, but do get the paddle shifting steering wheel too. You will never use the time, but with sports chrono you definitely will use the paddle shifters.

Paddle shifters can easily be retrofitted even with 991.2 steering wheels

MY 09 PDK had paddles and did not have sport chrono. It had to be added. I will say it isn't necessary, but adds something fun to play with. It will ruin you gas mileage, though.

It will kill the mileage, but you won't be puttering around at 1500 RPM either in auto, so there's that.

So there's that is right. To the OP....without SC in a PDK car you'll be in 6th gear at 30mph in auto mode. Manual PDK shifts without SC suck as well. As for gas mileage, I'm sure it takes a hit with SC but it's not like you have to worry about running out of gas between gas stations. Based on the consumption on my car which I see as very modest given the performance I think the difference is marginal.

I added the sport mode module to my 997.1 base C2 and its been a fun mod. I originally thought I could find a way to just buy the module for $85 and hack the code with my Indy. No joy. Porsche has that locked down and you need the code direct from Germany. I believe the code was $799 and then the dealer charged 1hr of labor to upload it. All-in it was a $1k mod. Still worth it, even for a manual.
