Wow, a description SO accurate that I now know what I smelled 23 years ago. I worked at a new car dealer in the parts dept and had to walk through the detail shop sometimes where they take the new cars from delivery and prep them for the lot. I'd occasionally get a whiff of something REAL bad but never knew what it was and never happened to ask. perm chems and rotten eggs is literally exactly what it smelled like and your description brought me back 23 years ago. I guess they must have used it to remove the iron rail dust that accumulated on the cars from their shipment across the country on the train.

06 Carrera base owner here. I only get a slight grind going into 5th {prior to complete warm up}. Even after a PTX change. So I'm very careful going into 5th prewarmup.
Another note, I bought 4 liters of PTX. Yes one can get by with 3 but I'm old school. If I dont see it trickle out when full, I can't sleep at night. So yes I spent an additional $36.

Capacity is under 3L and you'll see it dribble out the fill hole. .if you took more that, you either left a good bit in the bottom of the first 3 bottles or used the incorrect fill hole (there are 2 in a similar area) and the higher one isn't the right one.

No I did not use the higher one. I bought an extra liter just to be safe.

Yes it is over 3 litres if you fill till it drips out. The correct level is just under the fill hole, which is 3 litres. Don't worry about it, filling till it overfills is no big deal.

997.1 with stock short shifter. Gear oil is done (Porsche OEM). Ordered Function First Shift Right Solution and engine mounts today. The hunt continues...

I was annoyed about the cold weather 1st / 2nd lockout / notchiness in my 997.1 too...I replaced gear oil, motor mounts and installed numeric shifter and cables. My $0.02 - when everything is cold, 1 and 2 can still be a bit annoying, but double clutching 1st is what I now do habitually and for 2nd I just try to get the clutch all the way to floor and match the revs as perfectly as possible.

More importantly, while I was annoyed by this, I have grown to accept for what it is - another thing that makes my car unique and a mechanical machine that needs a skilled operator (me!) Hopefully you take comfort in that everyone else with a 997 has the same issue...

Hear hear. I had stiffer mounts for a long time with exactly that issue and replaced with a new set of standard motor mounts. Shifts perfectly now.

I’ve never driven or owned an S2000, so I don’t know any better. To me, my stock cables and shifter seems fine. Lol.

It could be the Slave Cylinder. I have a similar issue with my 2011 C4S - after tracking for 10 mins, in the heat of Texas, I cannot downshift 3->2. But when the car cooled down, or when I just got off the track and I am the pit lane, the gear box works just fine.

Get a numeric/cables and have it installed by someone who knows what they are doing.
