Normal or Sport Mode

Right. And the OP says he or she has a MT so it's up to him or her whether to lug or not regardless of which mode selected. And that has always been a bit of irony to me since we're supposed to make progress. I only drove a TIP car once and can't remember what the settings were but I know for sure that I never ended up in 5th or 6th gear at 30mph and or less than 2,000 rpm. That's what happens inevitably with the PDK in normal mode. To each their own but in normal mode (where I'm only in when sleepy and forgetting to configure things right), shifting into 6th gear around 30 mph is what happens in normal PDK mode which brings the RPM to below 2,000. Lugging?

Here's a thread I had started asking about the situation also.

Primarily, it's because the car's default mode is set to meet emissions and fuel economy standards and help the overall fleet measures. The sport mode allows the car to feel more like a sports car should.
Recently, I rapidly accelerated to get through a light. I had to bury the pedal in the carpet before the PDK downshifted. It was a little disconcerting how sluggishly the transmission reacted to my input in standard mode.

Sport mode (manual) 2010 C4S) has more aggressive throttle response than when in "normal" mode. It takes some getting use to...including less less accelerator and faster clutch when taking off from a dead start...but absolutely love the way the mapping and how quick the car responds and handles (even greater with Sport mode and DSC).

When I picked up my 997.2 C4S PDK a few years ago from my OPC in Geneva (Switzerland), it was recommended to not use the Sport (or Sport Plus) function before the oil temp had hit a normal operating temp of 90C (194F), a piece of advice I have been following categorically since then.

I'd have preferred if Porsche had this as part of the normal warmup cycle, so I don't have to push the button once it's on temperature.
At least it doesn't have the stop/start thing like "modern" cars.

Good timing on this thread. I was just talking to my dealer parts guy about retrofitting the sport mode button on my C2. I think it can be done pretty cheaply. On Suncoast its $850 for the module and code. But I can buy the module itself for $85 and I think my dealer told me the code was like $350. He said they have a 2.5hr labor charge on top, 30 mins for installation and 2hrs for the coding. That part didn't make sense so I was going to talk to them again this week.
I was assuming this just increased the throttle response like Sprint Booster, but will it actually change timing too?
Could be a fun project for the week.
