Default 997.2 C2S does high oil consumption affect the cats?

In my previous 911s, i had clogged cats reducing engine performance drastically after about 80k miles. The 964, and 996 both had severe corrosion of the cats and were quite clogged. I now drive a 997.2 C2S PDK which i love to bits.
With the reports of high oil consumption and excessive soot from the exhaust in the 997.2 I was just wondering how the cats are coping with the excess soot. (My car has both, high oil consumption and soot on the bumper)
Any comments on the effect on the cats? Do they clog up?

It does not cross with the stock center muffler. In/out on the same side. Sharkwerks and BillyBoat do cross. Fabspeed and other X pipes split the exhaust.

My view from owning two cars with a 9a1 engine. The car should not be burning any oil. Not from high miles. Not from hard usage. Not from extended high speeds (100mph+)

My 987.2 Cayman S had a 9a1 engine with 92k miles on it. I dont get the impression the car was babied by the previous owner. It had had 10k mile oil change intervals when I got it. It burned no oil. My 997.2 GTS burns no oil regardless the oil change interval. Now that I live in Germany I drive it 125mph+ nearly every time I drive it. Sometimes I set the cruise control for 125mph and leave it. Just now on the way home I drove 153mph (indicated).. and I do that pretty regularly. It burns no oil. Even with track days.. it burns no oil. The same amount I put in is there when I change it the next time.

I'm using LiquiMoly 5w30 in my cars.

Sounds like you got a 1 in a million Porsche.
Most burn oil but not at a high rate.
1 quart every 600 miles seems high but burning a quart every 1200-1500 miles is probably more common on 996/997's

^^^ this might be valid information if the poster had a car with an engine in it that is related to the original post. But it doesn't.

Also.. I mentioned two cars. So it couldn't be 1 in a million..

2010 C4S PDK. 127K miles. Oil changes every 5K miles. Mobil One 0-40. 7.5 quarts out. 7.25 quarts in. Another .25 quarts in after warming up and verifying level. Never additions in between.

Notes ... I keep the oil level in the lower half of full. If I jack only the back of the car up I get up to an extra .25 quarts of oil out on the change.

I have a couple friends who don't burn oil either.

So one in a million doesn't really fit.

But, from posts on this Forum, there can be a high variation in your results.

The 997.2 AOS seems pretty solid but checking pressure on the oil filler tube could be prudent.

Agree. People don't get on RL and post "my car burns no oil." To make a deduction that most do is far fetched. I have a 997.2 with 45k mi and has never burned oil. I suspect most don't. But if yours does it doesn't necessarily mean your engine is unhealthy.

I disagree - I don't think there are many 997's that don't burn oil or "use" within 5000 miles. I just don't think it's possible.
They all have to use or burn at least a 1/4- 1/2 quart in 5K miles.
Porsche's love oil. Some more than others.

Agree. Even my local indy shop owner says most cars burn a quart every 2k or so. I just finished my quart of Total 5W-40 and it went 1500 miles in my 09 C4S. I'm not going to worry about it. It's got 77K on the odo so I will have the local shop look at the crank pressures and AOS when they do the 80K maintenance.

997.2 - Engine Oil use/consumption is normal and common. Get some extra oil.

Point of reference, I've had my 997.2 for for 5 years and it runs like a raped ape. Burns oil. Engine is strong. I do not even think twice about the oil consumption. My mechanic has told me it's completely normal and he's an indy certified Porsche mechanic. After 7 years, I now believe him.

Compared with in-line 6 or v8 engines, the flat 6 by design just consumes more oil due to the layout of the pistons and cylinder interaction.
