Default Frunk pops without notice! 😳

Hello,

My 997.2 C4S has developed a scary trend. The front latch opens without pushing release on fob or touching switch. It hasn’t popped while driving but does when sitting with engine off. I just had it detailed and I think they got water into either switch or maybe latch. Only other factor may be side clear side markers that were put in after detail. Anyone with a similar problem or ideas? Thanks.

Prolly a bad switch. Pull the switch and disconnect it. If the frunk stops popping open, just replace the switch.

Maybe it's haunted. You didn't carry any dead bodies in there, did you?

This used to happen on my Boxster. Lift the switch, and blow some compressed air under it. Sometimes some sand/debris gets stuck under it and it pops open on its own.

...also, with my .1 fob, if I even look at it wrong, the frunk pops. I would say it is the most annoying thing about the car, which is saying it is a good car...but still zOMG!!

Good idea. Bad timing. I’m leaving on 2 week road trip Monday. Bucket list drive with my bucket list car. Toronto to Williams Lake BC to see old navy friend for a day then south to Big Sur then family in San Francisco and Santa Barbara. Back through Vegas to see another cousin. Hope time left to follow 66 home.

Swapped out switch. Very easy and inexpensive peace of mind. 2 plastic caps cover 5 mm Allen bolts. Loosen about 5 turns and pop out assembly. 4 clips hold switch.

I had the same issue. Try the simple solution first. ctrl, alt, delete. I.E, disconnect the battery for few minutes. Not sure why it worked but someone on Rennlist suggested it and the issue hasn't returned.

For the cost of $140 it’s worth not worrying about popping while on road trip. I expect the prairies will past briskly and really don’t want to be thinking about it. 😎🏁

From the research I've gathered, this occurs due to the key fob being very sensitive. You might not think you're touching it, but even the slightest touch on the key fob can trigger the pop.

I replaced by interior truck lid switch (as shown above) and it did nothing to solve this problem.

Mine does this. In my case it’s from my wife’s Tiguan key pushing the frunk button on the Porsche key in my pocket. No matter what pants I have on the two seem to line up perfect. If I just have the Porsche key in my pocket it’s all good.

Odd. The frunk button on my key requires a very purposeful and long push to actuate. There is no chance that it will accidentally pop the lid.
