To the valve stem as stated. Came from racing, and is especially useful on my Cayenne wheels that have a stepped barrel and internal valve stem on the step. Front at 4 o'clock / rear at 10 o'clock

Front at 5 / rear at 10

etc.

You may be facetious, but in real life I was at a Porsche Road Show 4-5 years ago, and I watched the crew set up their display of various model cars. Not only were the crests pointing towards the air valves, but they were actually pushing around a jack that they used to rotate each and every wheel with the crest pointing straight down as well.

GT3 wheels, GT3 coilovers, Eibach Swaybars, and Eibach adjustable endlinks...
(EDIT: no spacers BTW. I have some RSS 5mm spacers waiting to be put on).
This summer I will try to take some non-iPhone pics.

The points-towards-the-valve tradition dates back well before my mid-'60s awareness. It's --always-- been that way.

Fast-forward a few decades, and the wheels on my Honda Pilot DD came with the bottom of the H pointed towards the valve stems. It's unlikely that the Pilot's racing heritage played any part in that whatsoever. Still a pleasant surprise.

Sometimes the little things can matter. I'm looking at these outlets and am becoming annoyed with my sub standard work 8(
Vertical.

All the outlet covers in my house are vertical, and also the plate screws on the 997. Am I a bit ****?

Glad to see I'm not the only **** one here.....every switch and outlet plate has the screws lined up vertically and although my license plate screws are philip head they are aligned N/S/E/W.

And the point of my crests aim at the valve stem!

By doing a geometry alignment don't you risk the wrong torque value?

I'm in awe ... And agonizing about how to get to those outlets covered by large bookcases!!!

Now to get to work aligning a flat side of each lug bolt to be parallel to the outside of the wheel.

You will need to shim them instead to meet the rewired torque value. an arduous process.
