Default Getting tickets: Trend in letting you off?

2009 C2S 133K miles

I got pulled over again by a PA State Trooper last week..... doing 85 in a 55 on 322 in central PA... he knocked it down to 5 over, a no points offence... about $100. He did this with my radar detector hanging there and Waze blazing on the phone. (Driving my wife's Lexus IS 250... I honestly had no idea how fast I was going.) A few months ago, same thing.... heading onto the Walt Whitman bridge in my Porsche, the speed drops to like 35 or something stupid..... let me go completely.

Is this a trend? Seriously..... I NEVER got let go. Is it my advanced age? Silver hair and all? Seriously, I am amazed.

Peace

Feel like cities need money they are using tickets as income generating revenue.

Havent been pulled over in 2 years but got left off then.

I think it depends entirely on the jurisdiction.

I have found here in NC that being polite and contrite will go a long way towards getting a warning instead of a ticket. I ALWAYS say "yes sir, no sir" and smile when I get stopped. I have my registration, license and insurance in order and I don't give the officer any BS. I have gotten more warnings than tickets over the years.

Now that I am older and going gray, I think they're even more lenient. I think officers are just relieved to get up to a car and not have to deal with a dangerous situation or a belligerent douche.

I used to be on Wisconsin's "Habitual Offenders" list, which means bonus points and more money (for them)! That was when I drove muscle cars and sports cars, in bright colors. I would get picked out of a bunch of cars going the same speed and given a ticket. I switched to a black Subaru Forester XT. It was seriously modified and could out-run and out-handle any car I had before. But, I became invisible! I would drive the XT faster than what got me tickets in other cars, and the state cops would look at me and the car and ignore us. The one time I got stopped they turned it into an equipment violation not a moving violation, so no points and just a $150 fine. Ever since then I have made it a point to buy gray or earth tone color cars. Your age and what you are driving makes a world of difference! I also learned from a county sheriff to stay out of the left lane on the freeway.

You got stopped on the Walt Whit?! I’ve never seen cops stopping people on the bridges.

If you want to drive fast, go to Camden, NJ. If you get pulled over just say you were scared. They’ll let you go without any questions.

It's become obvious that these easily measurable offenses like speeding has equated to $$$ signs for budget strapped municipalities. I've been using radar detectors ever since I began driving as a counter measure. As their radar equipment improved, so would the detector I've used, but unfortunately, with all the modern safety (e.g. land departure warning) technology that uses RF to judge distance, it has made radar detectors more of a nuisance than a help. We all know about LIDAR speed detectors, these unit are practically impossible to fool without some form of laser jammer. Laser jammers are becoming more illegal. Historically, you couldn't jam RF signals, now laser sifters are falling for the same fate. Waze has more potential than the modern radar detector, but it's only as good as the network of users in the area for which you're driving. Having both is the best weapon. But I'd argue the best weapon is the situation awareness. Know your speed. Waze will alert you when you're over. Detectors like the Escort series will also alert you to speed changes, but it's not fool proof either since they rely of a national database for speed limits and a local town change them without it getting applied to the database.

Yes, I was pulled over, over the water! Coming from Jersey.

Regarding Camden..... I drive around it... via Alaska and Asia.

The most powerful tool a trooper or Roz has is actually Vascar... a simple two-switch timing device. This is from a retired NY State Trooper.. see book below. The first switch is the distance of the ROZ... they pass a sign or tree, ON.... pass another... OFF... the unit now knows the distance between these two points. The ROZ pulls over and switches the other switch ON-OFF as you pass..... easy calc. These switches can be used while moving and in any order.... So Roz is following you from 1 mile back. He/she sees you pass a tree... flips switch 2 ON.... another tree OFF..... then later as He/She passes the trees, switch 1 On then Off... easy calc. Switch 1 is distance pulled from the car, switch 2 is time.

BTW, the book describes all the tools tricks etc.. and has been invaluable to me. It now levels an old couch in my basement.

The cops here in Virginia are terrible. They cause more problems than they prevent. People race from hiding spot to hiding spot and then slam on their brakes creating yo-yo effect. I cannot stand it.

A couple of years ago I got pulled over in Madison. It was right around the time that police were getting accused of abusive tactics and the media was all over it. I was the nicest I could be. Polite, followed his every instruction, etc. Thanked him for his service. Still gave me a ticket with no adjustment. Still bugs me.

Count me me as one of those that rarely gets a break. And I’m old!

Not to poke the bear but the biggest factors that I know of in getting off with a warning as opposed to a ticket, in no particular order, are being 1) Female, 2) Attractive, 3) Blonde, 4) Flirty

None of these apply to me so I try never to be the fastest car on any particular stretch of highway. :-)

That is exactly what the trooper notes in his book... he even goes on to say "turn on the water-works!"... cry. He tells a story of a pretty nun he pulled over.... in time he found other troopers telling the same story back at the barraks. Someone noted she wore makeup. Well next time they didn;t give her a pass. She was a traveling salesperson in a fake get up. And it worked.

Blasting through Camden with the windows down at 12am. Doesn't get any better.
