When I grow up I want all your big boy toys, Groove. So keep the 997 and get the SC. Here are my two:

Born in Reading Pa, moved to NYC for college at Columbia, Law school at St. John’s in Queens, lived in Manhattan for many many years before wifey dragged me out to Suffolk County Long Island. ALso lived in Chappaqua, Westchester for a bit. Where in the Boogie Down Bronx?

I am in a different camp then you because I just can't let go for fear of regret, and because I am so attached to my cars. I know them like the back of my hands. My oldest Porsche I have owned almost 20 years now. In some ways I admire and envy your carefree attitude towards swapping out Porsches every few years. Makes for a fun and exciting routine...
Ideally I would hold on to the 997 and purchase the 911 SC and drive it around for awhile. See if it really scratches that itch and wild hair you got going. You may have some clarity right away and know for sure which one you want to keep so that you can free up some money, not worry about garage space, and sell one or the other. Some times going back to an old flame is fun for awhile, but then the reality of living with that old flame, baggage and all, starts to bring back memories of why you let her go in the first place.
What ever decision you make just remember... 1st world problems
Wish ya the best and if you go air cooled... We will miss ya on the 997 forums !!

ps... I am surprised you did not have to install new kitchen cabinets or buy the wifey a Louis Vuitton just for mentioning you wanted a new Porsche
I appreciate your input - Years ago I too got incredibly attached to my cars to the point of crazy. I owned my 1959 super sunroof 356 and 1967 early 911 sunroof for 18 years as a pair and used one of our rental houses garages for storage.
As the years went on and the tenants here in Seattle became more professional they all needed the garage and would not rent without it. I just could never see renting storage space for $500/month to store cars so I sold the 911 and then finally 5 years ago the 356 when I got an offer I couldn't refuse. I poured my heart and soul into my 59 356 sunroof, drove it everywhere and it was really part of me. Once I sold it I was done w/the attachment especially since I had gotten into the water cooled cars which were everywhere and not so special.
Whats interesting is as I think about things and started looking at the 997 marketplace right now, I don't see one 997 or 991 for sale that would interest me over my 997C4S----> The Meteor grey/Sport Seats/PSE/H&R's are a tough find.
So now I'm really on the fence = I'm sort of hoping this guy doesn't show up tomorrow but I'm slammed for room.

I bought the 1961 BMW R60/2 motorcycle yesterday because I've been looking for one for 4 years ever since I sold mine 20 years ago and missed it dearly - I like putting around the neighborhood/downtown Seattle late at night with no cars around.

Real nostalgic week going on - That 911sc seems like the right move but thought of losing the 997 is starting to concern me.

Whats even more interesting is my wife is away in Florida for 7 more days - "Hi honey, oh wanted you to know I bought another Porsche but decided it best to keep the 997 too" - "All the guys on Rennlist told me I would be a fool for selling the 997 and insisted I keep both"

Man this is gonna be interesting day today and tomorrow..I can see myself hiding in the living room when the buyer shows up at 10am tomorrow

Here's an old photo of my 1963 BMW R60/2 in my entrance room ----> It lived in entrance room for 3 years until I got married again and my wife felt it should be in garage - Could never figure that one out

It’s a really tough choice. My fear is always that I sell the 997, get a 356 or SC then regret it and not be able to find an equal 997.2. Nightmarish.

My son is into vintage airheads. He also has a '60 R60. Wonderful bike.

As to the SC, do it. However, I'm a bad example. I tried to stay at 2 cars, and my 928 is never for sale, and now I cannot part with my 997, so my latest purchase - a 2012 Boss 302 Leguna Seca with only 4700 miles - while technically for sale, is being driven too. I rent a space in a garage owned by several of my Cars-N-Coffee car buddies. So maybe what I'm saying is try to keep both.

I have to vote for the SC....and that's coming from a younger guy (relatively speaking) who doesn't have nearly as much appreciation for the older 911s as I should. The car from the era that one grew up with will always be the most desirable in my opinion, which I think speaks more to the heart than any newer model. Plus the biggest reason to get the SC - you can always find another 997 later if you want. Plenty of them.

I had a similar thread a few months ago - 997 to 911SC. I found a creampuff SC with a rebuilt top end but ultimately I didn't pull the trigger because of the weak AC, which is a big problem for drivability and enjoyment here in Houston. However, if I was in Seattle or somewhere more temperate I think I would have done it. They don't make em like that anymore. I would do it if I were you. There's plenty of 997s around if you decide to jump back into one.

T minus 2 hours and counting....I feel like I'm waiting for a BaT auction to end!

Best of luck, go with your gut! Let us know how it turns out.

I guess I should consider myself lucky, I've had my '05 997 10 years and no other Porsche appeals to me more. In fact the 997 is the first Porsche that ever appealed to me enough to buy one. I just don't care for the idea of driving a car without modern safety features anymore. And I totally get the storage issue. I owned a Corvette also for a couple years, which had to be kept under a cover on the driveway in front of the garage, blocking the Porsche. Plus then my Jeep GC was parked behind it. Jockeying them around got old really quick.

Very interesting indeed - Guy/kid is planning to show up at T minus 20 minutes

What really is interesting is he insists on paying me prior to going on test drive - His exact words after 15 emails and 2 weeks of me putting him off was "all I want to do is look at it and go to the bank - I trust you"
We'll see if this comes to fruition....Should be interesting and the easiest Porsche sale in my 35 years if it goes down this way

Also, if the 911SC doesn't pass my PPI I may go after a very nice low mileage 2006 C4S
I'll keep you posted!
