997.2 Sport chrono
Hi all, currently scouring the web for a nicely used 997.2 S/4S w/ manual trans. Found one that I'm really interested in. It doesn't have the sport chrono package but does have PASM (030), sports exhaust (176), limited slip (220) and sports suspension (P17)...but no "sport" button. What does the "sport" button get you in a manual that the other options won't make up for? I'm thinking that this set of options is basically sport chrono without the dash wart but want to validate that with the experts. Thanks!

You can add (dealer installed) the SC functionality (Sport and Sport Plus) without the chronometer. I would get that.

The chronometer is more of an ornament than practical use. My 997.2 have the sports mode that was added on later and although it did not add any horsepower, but the remapped throttle response changed the characteristic of the car which I really like.

You've found a great spec without the SC but with PASM and PSE. If you have PSE there's no way individually control it without also enabling the sport throttle mapping, which I personally don't like at all. And without it, you don't get the ugly dash wart.
Don't worry for a second about not having SC in a manual.

The car you’re looking at has PASM, so that provides part of what’s included in the above. But you wouldn’t for example have the adjusted PSM thresholds.

BTW, another thing that SC (apparently) affects on a 997.2 is the brake-assist pre-fill. You can turn it off in sports mode, but still keep PSM active.

For me SC is absolutely essential if you have 997.2 PDK.
On a 997.2 6MT, it’s definitely debatable, but it still has some value. For example I find the ability to loosen the PSM reins, but still have PSM active (albeit with higher thresholds), is also a great benefit.
I’m not familiar enough with the 997.1 to comment on any benefits (or not) with that model.
Karl.

997.2 + SC can have 5 buttons like picture below or 6 buttons with PSE on top
I’m running Akrapovic instead PSE...

On a 997.2 manual you will have separate buttons for PASM, PSE, Sport, rear spoiler and PSM. There is no Sport Plus button in the manual. It is only on the PDK. I have a 2009 4S with PSE and the Sport Chrono Plus option, which adds seat position memory in addition to the sport mode and the dash chrono.
Personally I don't often drive with the car in sport mode because I prefer the throttle range to have the full travel. I would not miss it. The roads in CO are too rough for PASM in its sport mode most of the time, so even when I turn on Sport mode, I usually turn off PASM.

Thanks all. That's very helpful. So, to recap, what I'd be missing without the sport button is the remapped throttle response, hard rev limiter protection (which seems like it should come standard) and the brake-assist pre-fill. That doesn't sound like it would be worth the price of retrofitting.
For the record, here are the console buttons on the one I'm looking atm which seems to corroborate the discussion.
