Default Brake Pad/Rotor Recommendations

Its finally time to replace my pads and rotors. What are all the cool kids using these days?

I'd read good things about the Hawk Ceramics and was planning on buying those. Sport Design wheels look amazing when they're clean but are damn near impossible to keep that way with Textar pads.

I see other Hawk models on Pelican but not the Performance Ceramics. Anyone know why?

I've found them on Amazon but want to confirm part numbers. Not the most user friendly process to find these.

Rear - Hawk Performance HB290Z.583 Performance Ceramic Brake Pad
Amazon Amazon

Front - Hawk Performance HB664Z.634 Performance Ceramic Brake Pad
Amazon Amazon

What do you guys recommend for rotors? I have 68k miles on mine so assume they are due but haven't measured them.

Do you guys recommend replacing the sensors and vibration dampers too?

I love my Hawk Ceramics with stock Zimmerman rotors. Mine is a base so the part numbers are different as I am pretty sure you drive an S. I love the minimal amount of dust compared to stock. Also I noticed no difference in bite. Got my rotors on FCPeuro. Pads actually were cheapest on Amazon.

So I installed Zimmerman rotors on all 4 corners (OEM) and Hawk Ceramic pads on my base 997.2. Here are the part numbers:

Front-HB719z.668
Rear-HB651z.724

I can confirm those part numbers for a base 997.2 work. Note that all rotors are 28mm new and not 34/28 like the S cars. Enjoy.

it does not look like the base pads on the 997.1 & 997.2 are the same.

Those part numbers also work on Targa 4 also.

Hawk Ceramics on my 997.2. Dusting about 1/4 of stock pads. No noticeable braking difference.

Thx guys. Are Zimmerman rotors the original equipment supplier to Porsche?

Yes they are. After weeks of research the consensus seemed to be if you track your car frequently get slotted rotors, but if you don’t or you do very little then drilled rotors are fine. Too much tracking and they will start to crack.

dba (disc brakes Australia) slotted rotors with Hawk Ceramic pads. Rotors from KNS Brakes and pads from Amazon.

These are the part numbers for my wife's 997.1 C2S. I would guess that rears are the same, but fronts different on a non-S car. These fronts were also for just the rings as I already had the hats from the last set.

Rotors and pads

Front 2-piece

Rear 1-piece

Yes, replace the pad dampeners - Suncoast sells them in correctly mixed kits by axle (front or rear) for your application.

Brakes work more effectively and don't have any squeal with clear side markers too.

Pete, those DBA rotors look pretty sweet. How's the quality? Are they directional? Who sells them?

They are very good quality. From the part numbers it looks like they are not directional as they use a patented "kangaroo paw" venting pattern inside the disc part.

Ken at KNS Brakes is the US distributor I buy from - sales@knsbrakes.com
