I would agree. A low mileage car, bone stock, with a clean Carfax is always the safest bet. That all changes if you can find the right buyer, and you may, but it could take a long time and the longer the car sits unsold, the less likely that is due to the "why does no one else want it" effect.
I think in the case of this car, there is a very compelling reason for the engine to add value because it essentially removes the two major 997.1 engine risks. But will most buyers know this and feel comfortable explaining it to potential buyers when they go to sell? Who knows. Hence the $10k spread we have here.

It's definitely a 'find the right buyer' car. If someone doesn't know the M96/M97 engine issues they aren't going to understand why they would pay the premium.

Kellen on the nose, congrats!
Well this tells us that wolfsburgde's guestimate of $5k to $7k of added value for a reputable rebuilt engine is basically dead-on. I would have guessed this car to go for around $27k to $28k, considering the damage report, without a rebuilt engine. Tack on $5k to $7k and you get up to what this one sold for. That's another good data point to have and is something to consider if you are ever debating engine work! I bet Raby is smiling.

Just some feedback because I'll assume most have not sold on BAT. I was hands off because I hired a company to sell it and its better in my experience to stay detached. Even using a company that regularly sells on BAT it took about a month for them to work with BAT and get the car online. We submitted a lot detailed records on maintenance and invoices but BAT would not include them. For instance the invoice they posted was only the base FSI invoice but they would not show the second invoice that had 8k in extras. It was frustrating because I felt there was more value that was not represented and would have justified a sale closer to 40k. It seemed to me that BAT wanted this auction to be all about the FSI motor and nothing else. The new owner may find out that it was a better value than he/she bid on and I'm happy to have the car go to a new owner since shipping it to Grand Bahama makes no sense and I won't keep it parked for 10 months a year. Thanks to all who added value with their comments and I hope you enjoyed the auction.
Thanks again JW

I think it was worth closer to $40K Also. Not just because of my "guess".
That's weird about BAT not letting certain things through.
