Currently own 2010 997.2 base coupe, and a 2017 range rover evoque. Wife has a 2014 C300.
Considering trading in both the 997 and evoque for a 991 CS coupe.
Is that too impractical as a potential soon to be father? Or is the practicality of an Evoque worth keeping?
Thanks in advance!

I would give the RR to your wife and trade in the 997.2 and c300 for a 991 Carrera S for yourself.

Why not trade the 997 for the 991 and keep the RR and C300 for the daily for you and your wife? I have a 997 thats a weekend car but daily my Tahoe and wife daily s the ATS she has. putting a rear facing seat in a 997/991 is pretty tight.

One advice: You would want another car other than the 911 that you can haul the kid, unless you plan to use the 911 for that (which I doubt you'll put a car seat on the passenger side). There will be plenty of times either you or your wife will have to drive the kid somewhere for something (check ups, unexpected visits, etc) and planning who takes the "family" car each day and swapping cars can be a real pain. Plus there will be a lot of unexpected times - for example: day care calls and the child is sick. Wife has the C300 but tied up at work or somewhere else. What will you do then when the only car you have is the 911?

A 911 works but it becomes very difficult when you have multiple passengers. I daily drove a 928S for several years with two kids & car seats and I currently use my 997 & 928S4 with two older kids but I also had/have a Honda Pilot for those days that have more more luggage and passengers. My wife has her own sedan. One other mention is if you are someone that doesn't want kid vomit on your leather think hard about pressing a 911 into daddy duty
Perhaps you should keep both until after the baby and make a decision based on what your lifestyle dictates once the little one is on the scene.

I would trade in the wife for the 991, maybe throw the kids in for more 991 options & keep the 997 and Range Rover

We have 2 boys (8 and 9) and it works fine with the Land Rover for my wife and 997 DD for me. Long trips we take the LR but going to be the beach or taking the kids to school or soccer the 997 works great.
My vote...
- For your wife: give her the Evoque. Or, if you need something bigger trade for the new Velar or buy a used LR4. My wife loves hers.
- For you: trade the C300 and get the 991
- And for me: PM me with the miles and how much they offered you for your C2. I could be interested if its a <45k mile 6sp :-)

Keep the evoque and only trade the 997. Having 3 cars really comes in handy while 1 is getting serviced. Child will be big enough to enjoy the 911 in a few years. It is possible to put a car seat (rear facing) in the back with the front pas seat moved up also. Life is short, drive what you like

Get rid of the MB and be happy with what you have. Thats my current situation....RR, Pcar and a Jag that the wife wont give up. We use the RR for the heavy hauling and wife uses her Jag for daily things while I use my Pcar for short errands. You will need the RR for Home Depot runs, date nights and grocery getting. That will be your everyday car.

Get rid of the Range Rover before the warranty runs out. Doesn’t matter what you buy as long as it’s not another R.R.
Regardig a baby in a 911, I don’t see how that can work. A rear-facing child seat doesn’t fit.
Does your wife prefer the SUV or the Mercedes?

My daily is an SS which is pretty big for a sedan and does fine with a car seat.
long story short - as others have said you’ll probably want a fairly decent sized SUV for family time and a larger than a c300 for daily kid duty if you plan to put a seat in both of your daily cars.
997/991 will be tight with a seat in the back but it’s doable...I use a Cosco brand seat for my 2 year old. It’s not the best seat in the world but it’s legal and compact.

I just cant see it being very efficient with little children and especially rear facing seats. I daily a MK7 Gti and my wife has an LR4 which seems to be a pretty common trend in this thread. My children are 5 and 7 and just picked up a 997 for a weekend fun car. The kids can get them selves in and buckle up with no assistance but if I had to get back there to buckle them or get them in and out it would be a pain.

This sound familiar . . .
I have a 997.1 C2S and an 18 month old. I DD a Malibu and my wife DDs an XT5. I had the 997 for about a year when my son was born. He's ridden in the 997 exactly once (and when he was still in a car seat you put in a base (Chicco KeyFit 30)). I know people out there say you can put a car seat in a 997, but i respectfully disagree. Sure, it can be done, but it is nowhere near convenient and I could never get the thing as tight as I thought it needed to be to be safe. The 991 is bigger, but even if the car seat fits better, it will still be a nightmare to get the kid in an out of the back and no one will be able to ride in front of the car seat. Also worth noting, in a 997, the lower anchors for LATCH are in the front passenger seat and the top tethers are in the rear shelf (behind the rear seat). What that means is that you will need to use the seatbelt to secure any rear-facing car seat (that I am aware of) in the back as opposed to LATCH and that front-facing convertibles will need to be in the front passenger seat. As a second note, t my convertible car seat (Chicco NextFit) is physically too large to fit in the rear seat, whether front or rear facing. What it comes down to is the 911 wasn't designed for use with a car seat and you'll find that out very quickly if you try.
My recommendation is keep the cars you have for now. Go test drive a 991 and take your car seat. I could be wrong, but my guess is you'll quite quickly realize how difficult it would be to put a kid in a car seat in a 911 on a daily basis. Also, if you kid isn't born yet, wait to do that test drive until you've been through the daily routine for a few months. Once you do that, you can decide what makes sense. I'd bet that you'll come to the same conclusion that i did: you need two normal cars for parenting duties. If it makes sense financially to keep the 997, then keep the 997 and get whatever DDs you want that are "normal" cars.
I debated the same thing, so I'm happy to answer any questions if you have anything specific.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the input from people who have been through this already.
I'm just going to keep my cars for now. As many of you mentioned, I don't know if I truly want a baby in a 911 for a variety of reasons. Plus after streets were flooded above the curbs yesterday at work (which happens here with a good rain dump) I was glad to be in the range rover.
