Default New brakes... squealing?

i just had new rear rotors and pads put on my 997.2 and now I am getting a VERY loud squeak from the brakes when they are lightly applied. If I brake hard, I don’t hear it. Should this go away as the brakes “wear in”? Or is something wrong and I should take it back? Forgive my ignorance on this subject. I’ve never had this with any other car I have owned.

Improper install and bedding procedure. Either they didn't use the OEM pad dampeners or anti-squeal paste or they didn't bed the brakes properly to mate them to the rotor, of both. I've done probably 50 brake jobs over the years and never have squeal.

Did you bed in the brakes? https://www.autoanything.com/brakes/...-in-brake-pads

i would do that before taking it back.

Unlikely this will work since it wasn't done properly when first installed, but certainly worth a shot. Did you have them done at a dealer or Indy?

Indy - but they have done work on my Porsches (both of them) for years now. It may be a screw up on their part.

Just to add some closure. Shop took the car back in, replaced brakes with all new parts and problem is resolved. They couldn’t figure out what was wrong so started from scratch and apologized profusely for the inconvenience.

Default Agree

I'd agree with Petza.

the simple fix is..apply anti squeal paste behind pads and on caliper pin, that should rid squealing. If vibrations while braking..that may indicate improper bed, but be sure it isn't a more serious problem. If it is poor bedding, do a gradual bed (several moderately aggressive stops from various speeds).. over period of a week or less..all issues should be gone. Good luck.
