997 Taillights Which do you prefer (ALL RED or RED AND WHITE)
My co-worker is looking to switch out his ALL RED Tail lights on his 997 with the RED AND WHITE one, I personally like the ALL RED ones and like the way it makes the car look. He is on the fence about the switch. I want to know what you guys things ALL RED or RED AND WHITE. Which one and why.

I don't like the clear optics rear tail lights. Not to be racial, but they look too "rice." This was sort of a thing with the early 2000's Lexus IS300/JDM Altezza. Carried over to mid cycle facelift for 1st gen RX300. Looked bad then, looks even worse now. Its kind of like an afterthought...something that someone thought was trendy but it wasn't really yet somehow sort of took off. Definitely All RED. Clear tail lights were a deal breaker when I was looking for my 997.2 GTS. Anyway, its his money, so he should just do whatever he feels like.

I switched to all red for my 997.1 2 years ago and think it is much better than the red/white that came with the car. I also took the "Carrera S" off the back after breaking it while washing the car.Less is more.

All Red look much cleaner/classier IMO. I find the clear ones don't look like they belong on the car, they look aftermarket.

I don't like any of them. They all look like some altezza type of stuff. Galaga in the house! But I like the OE clears better than the red and clear I have. I may eventually do something about it but its way down on the list once I do everything else functional. Thats in itself is a list that'll likely never be completed, so its not looking good for replacing the tails.

FTR, the OP didn't ask about all clear lights, just all red versus red and white.
but, since you're asking for opinions, I think a lot depends on the color of the car. Generally speaking I prefer the red and white on a 997.1 because it adds a bit of bling without being obnoxious and it makes the car look more like a later 997.2.

OEM red-&-whites or OEM reds both look equally good to me usually. Like others have said, what looks tacky and bad are aftermarket clear LED lights and the like.

For the 997.1, I prefer the solid red OE tail lights. For the 997.2, my preference depends on the color of the car. I think the OE clear lights look great on white and silver cars, and even black cars. I like the OE red/white lights (the standard light) on the other colors.

I let my friend know about all of the feedback, he moved forward with the RED AND WHITE taillights (says to him it makes the car look more modern looking). He will have his all red tail lights up for sale pretty soon, if anyone is interested let me know.

They must be .1 tail lights if there’s an all red option. Which is awesome, by the way.
