Default LN oil filter adapter is leaking.....

After maybe a year or two of flawlessly working the thing is leaking. Anyone have a leaky LN? I’ve been told to change the o-rings on the adapter itself.....I cleaned up all the mess, tightened the oil filter, and it’s leaking less than before, but still leaking. Anyone have this happen with theirs? It’s a wonderful product and why it started after working so well I have no idea. Maybe during my next oil change I will swap out/examine why the adapter itself might be leaking, as I do not think an oil filter body would leak. I’ve not thought it through but I suppose I could remove the adapter and filter without much worry of oil spilling everywhere to see the o ring condition, then fix it or no......

Yes, you can remove it all and not lose what's in the sump, just what in the filter. I bet you after 2 years of heat cycles with you unscrewing the spin on filters from the adapter, that the adapter has actually loosened up and is causing the leak. Probably just needs to be retightened, then the filter put back on.

Attacking this leaky LN spin on adapter at the moment..... Oil everywhere, LOL! The adapter stuck to the filter and was loose at the threads to the engine, therefore dripping steadily.

Did I mention I love hot oil…?

Dinner date with girlfriend at 7 o’clock, wish me luck.....

Update- filter stuck to the adapter and it’s all covered in oil so separating them is impossible. I reinstalled the stock adapter and filter to the engine, cleaned up as best I could under there, and torqued to 18 foot pounds. We shall see if it leaks again. About to add a quart of oil to compensate for the oil lost from filter body.

Charles was very good to me on this. He sent me the tool and o rings. Mine did not leak but broke free before the oil filter. I removed it, cleaned everything with brake free, and put a drop of Loctite on the threads. Problem solved.

I have the 26mm deep socket. I have access to the previous tool with pins. I didn’t use loctite for the adapter install. Likely suspension and time have loosed it. For now it’s stuck to the filter!

This problem has stayed solved.......basically retorqued the adapter / replaced the oring then a new filter and zero issues.

If anyone gets one stuck to the filter, this tool works perfect to get it off. The pegs fit right into the adapter holes.

anyone have any idea what size the O ring is? I have had one of these for about a year and I just had the IMS Solution installed and that uses a different adapter to accommodate the added oil line. So now I have an adapter that has very few miles and only been through 1 oil change. I wouldn't mind selling it. It doesn't leak, but i'd feel better about selling it with a brand new seal.

It is the same o ring that is used for the original oil filter housing. It usually comes with the original oil filter kit.
