Replace PCM in 2012 GTS
I'm planning to go aftermarket head unit on my car (2012 4 GTS). I've done research and know what's involved NAVTV interface, etc.
My questions.
What functions do I lose as a result of ditching the PCM?
Are all the PASM/PSE/PTM/SPORT+ options unaffected?
Aloha and Mahalo for the help.

Subscribing because I too am curious. One of my 'must have' items is steering wheel audio controls. On GM, I adapt/translate these or it's just spoken natively. (Obviously excluding some of their garbage systems.) I haven't had any luck finding anything here - or anywhere - about the steering wheel controls on 997.2's. And I'm starting to think Porsche only built like... 10 or 20 cars with them.

I replaced the PCM in my 09 Carrera last week. The only PCM functions I've lost are trip computer and song/radio info display to the cluster. Everything accessible by the selector lever on the steering column remained in place.
I've gained - Bluetooth (phone and streaming) Apple Car Play, Android Auto functions giving me Waze based Nav and control of Pandora, Spotify, music library from the head unit.
I don't have PASM/PSE/PTM/SPORT+ options, so can't speak to those functions.

I replaced my Head unit and amp in my 2011 C4S. I did not go NavTV route because you lose the ability to fade music front to rear. Small issue but didn't like the idea of losing it.
All of the PASM/PSE/PTM/SPORT+ options are unaffected. As Terp20854 pointed out you do lose some information in the cluster that I did not feel was important.
To retain Steering wheel controls I used the Paser Unican Model # CF0007UNUN11.
I did the install 100% myself. Took my time so that it could be easily reversed if someone wanted to put it back to stock.

Apologies for hijacking but what a stable, present and past . Am I right in assuming you prefer 997's over 991's? Just curious since one arrow after another seem to point in that direction. Not just in this forum but elsewhere too.

Yes sir. I only buy 997s. I consider them the best looking watercooled 911.

Three Wheelin'
what head units are you all changing to or considering? I'm in the process myself, have a Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX here to install in my 987.2

I just replaced mine with a pioneer mvh 1400nex and rather than use the Nav TV, I installed a 5 channel amp. I kept all stock speakers and lost the trip computer as well as song title in the dash display. I haven’t checked the function of the sport chrono, but the gauge should work - I won’t see the time in the dash though.
It it is great having Bluetooth, CarPlay, and some adjustability with the amp settings. The car sounds 100% better, even with stock speakers, so it was a worthwhile upgrade.

I replaced with a JVC KW-840BT and reused the stock amp - NON Bose car. I pretty much only use Waze so didn't have a need for integrated Nav in the head unit. So far I've been happy with it. I had the USB installed in the storage bin beneath the head unit and mic to the right of the steering column.
