Default New OEM Floor Mat Quality

I just replaced my black floor mats (2009 911S, coup) with a front set I bought back in Feb. from Suncoast. In comparison to my last OEM set, purchased there a few years ago, they are a lot tinnier and lighter. My last mats, and the originals, had a foam backing and felt more substantial. Yes, they have the same logo and design.

I just called the Suncoast parts and the representative said that is the new OEM mat and perhaps they were saving on the cost of manufacture.

Yes, this is a small deal, but not, IMHO, a step in the right direction. Has anyone else noticed this change with OEM mats purchased elsewhere?

Not a Porsche, but I recently leased a $100,000+ 2018 BMW X5M and the mats are thin and lightweight. Amazing car, but subpar mats. My e46 M3 mats had much more substance.

Just ordered Cocomats for my 997.2. Will be curious to see how they compare to OEM in terms of construction and overall heaviness. I know they are a different animal, but hoping they are more substantial overall.

The Porsche 997 all weather rubber mats at about $80 delivered on eBay are high quality mats with an excellent fit. Purely functional appearance. Coco mats are well-made but heavy and pricey at $200-250. IMO coco mats look best in vintage cars.

Agree with your point about Cocomats. That said, I thought it would be an interesting look. I usually like to have a couple of different sets of mats for my cars anyway. Easy way to change the look and feel of the interior. as I get bored easily.

The original mats in mine lasted about 10 years with only moderate wear (driver's mat mainly, for obvious reasons). Replaced them with natural browns which were on deep discount at Suncoast, and after a couple years they looked the same as the originals looked after 10. I now have a set of black ones, because I changed my steering wheel, shifter/boot and ignition and headlight switch trim to black. These are wearing about the same. Next time I may get a set of Lloyds w/logos, which is what I have on the cargo shelf. Probably same quality but lower cost.

I went with Weathertech in my 911. Love them. Might put OEM back in for the summer though.

In the fall of '16 SunCoast had a clearance sale on the gray OEM mats, $30 for the complete set. They look great in my black interior, and hardly show any dirt. I'm saving the originals - they're like new. The replacement mats are quite thick. Thinner ones wouldn't bother me.

I had a different experience with OEM mats. When I bought my 2008S it came with black mates that were, to my surprise, quite thin ( cheap looking). I immediately bought a new set of mats from Suncoast and they were much more plush/thicker. I called them to ask if they were original. I was advised that the mats were OEM and that theychange from time to time. Perhaps Porsche has a few suppliers? Both had the Porsche logo.
