Probably addressed somewhere here in this forum, but I didn’t find. I have a 997.1 without a multifunction steering wheel and was wondering if a multifunction wheel can be installed ?
This will be a nice little easy project! Finding one will be the challenge. If Stone grey, I can use my airbag if missing. If black I’ll need an airbag too. Probably can paint my airbag.
I’m honestly getting more and more confused on the topic.
I asked my OPC in Bern (Switzerland) if my 997.2 C4S could have the multi function steering wheel fitted, and after they had checked the VIN id I was told it was not possible... I have the PCM 3.0 with nav but not the phone module fitted (but does have the BT option) so cannot be because of this.
Thx. I’m primarily looking either for Stone Grey or, secondarily, black. Otherwise, I will need to re paint, which is a possibility with a dark color. I may have the console and door card plastic re dyed so, the wheel could be done then too.
Picked up a 997.1 MF wheel and have installed it. As expected, the buttons don’t work. So, I was wondering if enabling them is dealer-only and what it’s likely to cost.

You will need at least a Durametric Pro that's capable of module coding or possibly even the dealer's PIWIS system. I had mine done at the dealer during my PPI. They had never done it before and it took a few tries, but we finally got it working and it has been perfect ever since (2012).
I went through this a couple months ago after getting lots of help on here from some who have already posted, Petra. Yes a dealer trip is in order to make it work properly. Dealing with the dealer was more painful than going to the dentist for me. They just do not like to do this kind of stuff on these cars or at least none of the three dealers I contacted. I contacted an Indy that was very helpful and even though he had a jail broken PIWIS he said sometimes he can’t get it to work because of firmware issues. Module firmware, car brain firmware etc. sometimes they just conflict and older or newer firmware needs installed to make it work. Only a dealer has access to that. Best of luck. I love my multifunction steering wheel.
I went to my Indy to get the "activation" done. Took him 30 min or so. Cheaper this way than to buy a PIWIS equivalent.
I told him to enable all the functions, so that the phone would also work with my aftermarket HU.
A subset of the buttons worked with the PCM 2.1, but then I wanted aftermarket anyways.
With the aftermarket HU, all the buttons work (you need the right steering wheel controls adapter).
