I am assuming you mean your 07 C2S. What harness, wheel and module do you have? They may just not know how to do it. My 997.2 has a 07 997.1 steering wheel. Three dealers told me it cannot be done and then one said they will try. Guess what? It worked.

Right. My 997.1 that came with a standard wheel. I may call a few other dealers in the AZ or SoCal to get their opinion. They were referring to a wiring harness and steering wheel controller for a car that would have come with a MF wheel. As stated on a number of related breads, maybe they just don’t like this kind of work.

thanks

There is a module and a harness inside the steering wheel itself, but if you purchased the wheel off EBay it probably was there. The harness will have an orange, yellow and green plug inside. The module is the half moon piece directly right of the hole. Did your wheel have those when you purchased it?

If you have the same setup it sounds like a lazy dealer. There is no official document that I am aware of that they follow. It just needs to be a seasoned tech who really knows his way around a PIWIS.

Have your dealer call Chris Brown at Porsche of North Houston. He has done this several times and knows his stuff.

Thx doclouie.

It seems clear that this can be accomplished.
I’ll take this project up again later. For now, I put the orig ‘skinny sport’ wheel back on.

Thanks again

I’ve revisited this project with another dealer. The result was the same. Need an updated harness and MF control unit. Part numbers 997-612-673-02 and 997-613-445-03. I’d like to find a description of these, but I’m coming up short. I’m now kinda wondering if both of these dealers are misunderstanding the task. Since the MF wheel was an option, it doesn’t seem to me that there would be a different harness and controller for the steering wheel besides the harness and controller that are embedded in the MF wheel itself. Am I off base? If the above P/N’s are the harness and controller inside the wheel, then maybe these dealers were looking at how to convert a standard wheel into a MF wheel. I’m almost ready to quit on this, but maybe not quite yet.

#18 & #28 in the diagram below are the two part numbers you've referenced.

#28 is the harness the has two ends that connect to the multi-function thumb control panels and resides in a little housing along the top of the wheel.

#18 is the controller so I believe the current wire that comes into the steering wheel up through the steering column plugs into the #18 controller, then the #28 harness plugs into the controller and connects to the MF thumb buttons.

Once this is done, the dealer should be able to enable the functionality with coding in the appropriate modules, unfortunately, I was new to the 997 at the time and the dealer hadn't done one so I don't recall what modules we were in - one was probably the Gateway and I think it may have been in either 2 or 3 modules where we had to go and I think we had to try it twice before it would take.

Sorry I'm not more clear on what we did.

Thx Pete. You have confirmed that those parts are already inside the MF steering wheel I have. It seems I drove from Tucson to Phoenix for an incorrect diagnosis. The tech was headed in the wrong direction on this. At least the drive was enjoyable.
