Default 991 bumper on 997

I'm struggling to find pictures but surely somebody must have done this.

Does anybody have pictures or info on fitting a 991 bumper to a 997.2?

I'm aware it's not a straight fit and there it will need a fair bit of work, but I'm fine with that.

991.2 GT3 Cup bumper is the plan on my 997.2 C2S.

Any help will be appreciated.

I don’t think it’s possible without very heavy modification. The 991 is wider than the 997, so a direct bolt-on replacement looks to be impossible. There’s a guy over on www.6speedonline.com who did a 991 facelift on a 1999 996. Perhaps you could reach out to him. He had to replace the fenders, bonnet cover, headlights, wiring harnesses, etc. Another option is an aftermarket 991-style bumper cover from a company like Wicked Motors.

Check out youtube. I saw some videos about replacing 997 bumpers with 911 bumpers.

Thanks for the reply but I wouldn't trust Wicked Motor Works as far as I could throw them. Not an option.

It was more of a general enquiry to see if anyone has modified a 991 bumper to fit on their 997. It's not an uncommon thing in the modding world, particularly amongst the VW scene etc, so can't see how this can be any more difficult. The top half of the 997 bumper smoothed onto the rest of the 991 bumper so that it still secures along the top as it did from the factory and the panel gap is right. It's surely not too difficult but before cutting up a Cup bumper, it would be great to know if there's something I've not thought of.

I agree - my comment was not an endorsement of Wicked Motors.

I do recall seeing a project where somebody cut out the center of their 997 OE bumper, and replaced it with the center of a 991 OE bumper. It's certainly possible, I just don't know what is involved.

Thinking it'd sure look and work better with the rest of the Cup bodywork/aero. Since the cup cars have fairly large fender flares you'll need to account for that by either getting the cup fenders or just the flares, which are larger than the regular GT3 RS flares as far as I know. Of course this all goes together with the rest of the aero on the car along with motorsport centerlocks etc. Its all designed/tested to work together.

Google came up with some. The second pic is actually from 2M Autowerks here in San Diego. IMHO, it doesn't look good.

Since the 991 is an overall bigger car, in those pics it makes the front of the 997 way too heavy visually, in my opinion, and doesn't look very good.

+1. Complete lack of harmony with that huge elaborate 991 bumper on the 997 which had much less mass and mess going on up front. Looks like a kit car in those pictures.

I do have Cup flares ready to go on, as well as BBS E88s/AD08Rs. I am going for the whole motorsport look. The car is fairly low on coilovers, has fixed back RS buckets etc. Will eventually have a centre exit and GT3 rear and RS/Cup decklid/wing, so I think it will all tie together with the agressive front end.

I agree though, some of those pictures make it look horrible. In particular, the GT3 bumper.

If I could get hold of a 997.2 GT3/RS/Cup front, I'd fit it, but I can't find one for sale, and do not fancy new OEM prices.
