Default Tire Pressure Monitor issue:

So my wife drove my car the other day, and now i am having an issue with my TPM. I normally keep it on display on my instrument panel so i know my pressures. Now what i have is this (pic) and i can't seem to get it back to showing actual pressures. Can anyone help? What does this mean? What am i doing wrong?

You must be new to 997. Nevertheless, the car has 2 modes of showing tire pressures: 1st is while car is in motion via the stalk either up or down until you see them in psi.

2nd is also via stalk and computer display ( push down on stal and go thru menu until TPMS) as in your pic.

This mode is the accurate one. Don't know why you would want to permanently show your pressures instead of another more useful parameter but to each his own. I choose to show remaining distance.

TPMS are a pain in the butt and was mandated to prevent non-enthusiasts from driving on under-inflated tires.

The display tells me it can't perform this task while the vehicle is in motion.

I don't understand what the +1, +2 means. Is this distance in miles before the monitor learns the pressure? I like it to show me the actual psi in each tire, which is what i am trying to re-achieve.

You have it set to show the difference between the recommended tire pressure and what it currently is, not the absolute pressure. Its easy to change back to the absolute pressure display and its all in the manual. Buried inside the PCM.

Yup, it was introduced in 2006 so my 2 late 05s don't have it, which im do happy about, but still have the larger IMS bearing. The other change for 2006 was the weight sensing passenger side airbag deactivation sensor.

Go play with the stalk and you may randomly get it, else it’s in the manual buried deep inside it.

Sometimes your TPMS will just hiccup. Over the years (only about three times) I’ll stop for gas or while running an errand and when I restart the engine I’ll get similar low tire pressure warnings. After checking the pressure(s), which was/were fine, I simply reset the system and all was well. So, just try a system reset (push the stalk forward and scroll through the menu). Interestingly, I put a new battery in my car yesterday (with an auxilliary power source connected so as to not interrupt the electrical flow to the ECU) and the TPMS showed similar +/- pressure numbers even though the actual pressures were what I prefer to run. Again, a system reset solved the problem.
