Why are there so many (ex-)BMW owners driving Porsche?

The forum crowd on BMW is a little different now, than 9 years ago. The old timers are not so active and members now are full of kids. I liked BMW when the head console is still red light, it set the difference. I still own the last car with a red back light, an F10 535.

Are they still pumping the noise in through the speakers? LOL

I am sure it is stated here somewhere in this thread but if you go to the BMW forums, there are many posts about 911 owners coming back to M cars due to various reasons.
There will always be something with i-drive in my driveway. My current daily is a F10 535 and will most likely get the G30 540 next year. On day to day basis, F10 does everything just right and is still is a pleasure to drive.

my last BMW was an X5M. The engine on that thing was just incredible. The rest of it was 180 opposite. it spent literally as much time in the shop as it did in my possession. I had an E39 540 sport package that I still miss, and several other BMW's. That X5M was it for me. would not buy another at this point.

I'd love to hear about those "various reasons". Came from two E46 M3's. Also drove many of the later M variants. To me there's no comparison between the two brands and their cars. Totally different driving experience across the entire spectrum. How someone coming from any BMW to a 997 or even a 991 and deciding it was a bad move is something I can't fully understand. The only way I can begin to understand it is that these are drivers that prefer more of a sedan car along with the comfort creatures a BMW delivers compared to any 911.

Every step one takes in life has a purpose. One step I took before buying my "Dream Porsche" was to buy my wife a brand new BMW 330i, which by the way, is a magnificent car, the 8 speed auto is exceptional.

I sold my 2000 M Roadster to register my 997 C4. That was a trade I was willing to make, due mostly to me getting tired of clothe tops, which was driven by the purchase of the PRHT Miata/MX-5. However, the M Roadster was an excellent car that I miss every sunny day, and I'd sell the 997 before I'd sell my 1999 M Coupe.

Forgot about this thread, but recently picked up another E46 M3. Now I have both a coupe and a vert. I really enjoy these cars and think they make a great companion to a 997 or just about any other Porsche

Burning Brakes
Once you get used to the considerable maintenance issues (over-engineering, high costs, fewer dealerships, inconvenience) of any German brand, moving from one to another is pretty easy.

I actually went the opposite way and added an e46 6MT M3 to my lineup. Here it is the day I picked it up a couple weeks ago. It needs some cosmetic TLC but yes, meant to be a more fun family hauler.

I like the E92 M3's best, but the E46 is a close second
