Default nice OEM looking stereo upgrade

a friend sent me this. i like the concept. looks pretty factory, integrates into existing equipment, and adds a ton of available features. not sure about the manufacturers though

For that price I would go with an name brand aftermarket model, like Pioneer or Alpine.

Looks nice, but if you have sports chrono, you still lose out o its controls and the trip computer various functions.

If I ever go aftermarket I'll probably go with JVC/Kenwood, they're decent and relatively inexpensive. Previous owner put one in my Corvette, it works great and does all I need it to: BT for handsfree phone and streaming music from Spotify and voice commands from GPS from my iPhone. No need for nav or Apple carplay here.

I'll have to give this or something like it a look when it comes time to upgrade.

I guess they specialize in factory head unit replacements that look like original units.....but with upgraded features. My biggest gripe about aftermarked units is they dont look factory and stick out. For $400 this is a plug and play option that isnt distracting to look at.

exactly my thoughts, worded perfectly.
its just as easy to add any other double din unit, but they look very much out of place and distracting

Nothing disrupts the cockpit more than a disco from the aftermarket stereo. Blaupunkt and Nakamichi were perfect contenders in the single din market for older 911's. But when you have a double din market, there was slim pickins.

BTW, I hate you. You live in Tampa...I love Tamp and count the days until we can return. hahahah

That would be great if it was plug and play with the Bose amp and the orange fiber optics where you just unplug the factory PCM and connect this one in its place, but I don't see any rear connections that lead me to believe that would work

one of the options listed is "support for 2005-2008 year cars original fiber amplifier".

Excellent. If my PCM craps out, this is probably the direction I'd go. I have the Dension system installed so currently have streaming and phone capability and not worth pulling all of that at this point unless there's a better reason (like it no longer working).

Thanks.

That company Seicane is the home of the cheap MOST HUR unit (basically the same one NAVTV and Sun Coast has been selling to porsche owners for $650 or more for years). They sell them for around 120 bucks if memory service correctly. You can get the same ones on ebay for 80 bucks. But yeah, they are compatible with the BOSE fiber optics.

The product listing says 05-08 but the before and after photos are from a 997.2.

Nah. Looks cheap actually and must be crap compared to name brands. Also the pictures don’t look legit and are photoshopped mostly. So who knows what the actual end product maybe?

what I mostly hate about aftermarket is the lack of actual ***** on most units. I want and need a **** as touchscreen for controlling volume and other stuff is way worse than a basic ****!
