Default Great article on Jake Raby in the latest Panorama

Not sure if you guys read the latest Panorama but there was a great article on Jake's engine building class by a student who drove all the way from Canada to attend. While driving home the poor guy totalled his beloved 996 on the Tail of the Dragon. He called Jake that evening, a Sunday, and they hatched a plan to turn lemons into lemonade. By Monday Jake found him a 997 to buy that had a blown engine. By Tuesday they sourced a donor engine and started to tear it down. By Thursday they had the engine installed and by Friday he was on the road to Canada with his new 997 and a Raby rebuild. Trial by fire if there ever was.

Great ending and a class act from Jake. The community it lucky to have people like this.

Thanks... The person that the story was about is a fellow Rennlister, and is on this forum..

Clarification:
We did not “rebuild” the engine.. It had a stretched timing chain, and worn chain rails. We pulled the valve train apart and freshened it up, and installed our master linked chains. Then installed an IMS Solution, new water pump, AOS, RMS and installed the engine. Basically it was our Stage 4 preventative package.

This poor guy lost a great 996, but ended up with a spectacular 997.

One man's "freshen up" is another man's rebuild :-)

When is the next rebuild class scheduled?

Just read it. Great story. Raby is the kind of guy that reaffirms one thing what makes owning these cars great. RJ

Rebuild is a dirty term. It’s not used here, I leave it for the other guys. We start from scratch.

I don’t currently have any 2018 classes planned. I have not made my mind up yet, but I might take the year off. Classes are stressful, and I’m ready to cut back a lot. I have two new non-automotive inventions that need perfecting. That’s where I need to spend my time.

I might change my mind. Hard to say.

I'm Pete, the guy in the article (Canadian, eh!). Jake and his team were awesome. They got me out of a serious bind I got myself into (completely my fault), and had absolutely ZERO obligation to do so. He put me up in his place in Georgia, and made it not only possible to drive a 911 again, but to make this whole experience an upgrade, with an engine that had more preventative maintenance done on it than I've ever heard of in this community and done very quickly. I saw the some of the valve train items they found worn, and I agreed, they should be replaced. I've put 26,000 km on that car since then (one year of daily driving), and it runs great! Thank you Jake Raby and everyone at Flat 6 Innovations!!!
I even got to ride in a 1000 hp 911 turbo, a 40th anniversary 996, and some crazy swiss unstoppable air cooled 4x4s. Good god that was fun!
