Thanks Alex. It was a beautiful, perfect car. The red stitching was all custom.

The open house ended at 3:00 and they were back at 5:00. I am feeling lucky we weren't there. The police know they were armed cause they stole guns from the previous house which they hit about 2:30. In that way we were lucky.

I will reiterate what someone else said earlier--open houses do not sell homes. They attract people who have nothing better to do and who like to look at houses--and the occasional thief. In fact, the efficacy of open houses is inversely proportional to the cost of the house. The higher the price, the less likely that a real buyer will go to the open house and the more likely that the place will be filled with looky-loos and people with malicious intent.

Anyone who is interested in looking at an expensive house will make an appointment and see it on their own time, with a realtor.

Sad and anger inducing story. Sorry to hear and will be on the lookout.

We lived in Seattle for 10+ years where we streeted various DD cars for years with no trouble, only to have the windows smashed and gym bags taken from both of our DD's in the driveway the week we moved to Mercer Island. Another purportedly "safe" suburb along the lines of Redmond.

Good advice on adding a padlock to the garage door rails - something I'd never considered when we leave on vacation.

I keep the Porsche keys in the safe when I'm not driving it, but overall I think the only real solution is a good agreed value insurance policy.

What a story!! So sorry. What gets me it was in your garage for gosh sakes? Do you or your neighbors have cameras around? On the business side how is the insurance treating the deal? Homeowners or Auto? They need to pay every penny as it was a beautiful 911

I also keep a strong combination padlock (combination so I dont need to keep track of another key) on the garage door roller track 24/7. Takes 10 seconds to remove....provided I remember the combination
Stops the door from rolling open when its on place.
Just one more small thing a potential thief would have to get past.

Also disconnected the door cables from the handles so the door can only be opened from the inside

And yes.... keys are always hidden.

Beautiful car. I hope you get it back in original condition.

Can't remember where I first saw this (maybe here on RL), but another option is this ziptie to prevent the manual garage pull from being triggered via the outside (or inside). See vid

Sheesh...very sorry about this

But glad no one was hurt!

I hope that you are getting over it, although I think that this would take me a while...probably just until I started shopping for the replacement!

Holy crap! I forgot to mention, when doing this brilliant move, put a little sign on the garage door opener. Othewise you will bend metal when you forgot you left the lock on.

I did this ONCE, then put a piece of paper that said DUMMY on it over the remote button.

Ooops... lol

On this particular door I do not have a garage door opener installed.
Its all manual
I do have a remote in the car for the other door so I have to
Get out of the car and open the door manually before pulling in.
A slight pain in the A$$ but no biggie

Update:

I was just called and the car has been located. It was at a casino about 60 miles from here and a suspect was arrested. The car is in impound and I can pick it up tomorrow.

I have no idea of the condition. Fingers crossed.

I'm not sure if that's good news or not. I'd definitely pull an overrev report as part of the condition assessment. Good luck and I hope all is OK.

The cops are clueless I think. Maybe if your car was a Honda or Toyota but not a 997 Porsche. There doesn't seem to be a hot market for hot 997 parts.

More likely the car was in a truck or enclosed trailer shortly after leaving your garage and in a few more hours tucked away in some container labeled "diapers" or some such and is on its was to its new home somewhere overseas.
