So MHO...I had a 911SC cab and a 930 coupe (obviously). I got rid of both cars to get the 996TT cab (2004, 1st year offered for the cab in this model). I don't think I'd find any reasonable person say my car is not fast enough. I mean really how fast do you need to go. Instead, nothing like an open air drive. I also wouldn't do the hardtop. The soft top is well constructed and easy to use. Now for squeaks, yes there are those...do you really care that much? Turn the stereo up or get an aftermarket exhaust (EP for me). Also stock suspension needs to be upgraded. Make sure you get springs to handle the extra weight of the cab.
That makes a lot of sense. I drive a BMW daily so this definitely won't be a daily driver - I'm also not planning to track the car. I just want it for fun. I'd love to be able to put my young daughter in the backseat when she's able (we're short people).
I do find with my current classic convertible I don't drive it as much as I'd like - partially because it's not known for reliability, and partially because it just gets too hot to be enjoyable... Do you feel that way in the cab?
I think if you're even debating then you should go for the cab...as most true coupe guys don't waiver back and forth. If you even remotely think you'll like a cab then that's where I would tell you to go. I am on the other side of the equation, and only like hardtops. Although, for some conflicting information, I was in my friends 996TT Ruf Cab the other day (perfect weather) and I did see how nice it can be to have the best of both worlds. I am just a little odd in that I feel true sports cars are hardtop coupes, and that cabs aren't real sports cars lol. Try and find logic there, I dare you!
Indiana - I go back and forth on that point as well. There are a lot of sports cars I think HAVE to be a convertible - XKE, Triumphs, Alfas, etc - mostly classics from the era of true roadsters and such.
However, with the Porsche, I'm wavering a bit. The more collectible seems to be the coupe as more purists go for it. However, as a weekend fun car, putting the top down also seems glorious...
Whatever you decide. That front bra needs to come off before you buy it and look at it in the sun light. I have a 2002 Boxster that had a front bra on and no matter what I do, I can still see the line where it sat. Also had debris under it that left scratch marks and wore the clear coat off in some spots on the bumper.
Yep, I would definitely do that. The current owner put that on and has only put 300 miles on it since purchasing. He seems to keep it in the garage all the time.
I do feel like $50k for that is high, I could agree with the asking price if it were an X50. I'd probably think it's closer to mid 40s. I could see a dealer asking $50k but not a private seller.
