Decision Help - Cab or Coupe...
 

Hi All,

I need your help! I'm in the market for a 996 TT 6mt.

I can't decide between a coupe or cab.

Today I drove a beautiful '04 996TT cab. With the following options:
C02 X70, X98, 342, 446, 635, 750, 939 and 982. Not sure what all those codes are but the car seems to be in great shape with only 40k miles.

The car was very tight and he wants just under 50k for.

What do you all think of this deal?

The big thing I notice on the cab is that it's definitely a bit floppy over bumps.

Anyone able to offer up their thoughts on buying a coupe vs cab?

I think it's truly a personal decision -- you should drive both and see for yourself. I'm a coupe guy, but I've never actually heard anyone describe the cab as "floppy" -- it's pretty stiff.

It sounds like a reasonable deal if everything checks out.

It didn't flex horribly, like other convertibles I own, but I was surprised that it did seem squeak a lot more - maybe because the road was horrible and the car is so stiff?

Get one of each! That's what I did.

I'm not going to track the car, it's just going to be for personal enjoyment and fun but I do want something that feels super solid.

The only thing I dont like about the Cab is the look when the top is up. Other than that its a personel thing!

If you are tall the coupe has more room.
I have had two cabs, 2003 C2 and 2004 turbo. I definitely could use more seat travel/leg room. I have driven a friends 2004 C4s for long rides and it had more leg room.
That said we both like top down drives.

Squeaks, the C2 was squeak free with rag or hardtop. The turbo both roofs are noisy on rough roads. Maybe due to awd or more torque? But definitely noisy.

I'm definitely not tall, so head room and leg room isn't much of a concern.

Odd, question - which has more rear seat room?

I think the Cab's rear seat seatbacks are slightly angled forward as compared to the Coupe's. That probably slightly reduces the Cab's rear seat room.

My opinion is that a convertible doesn't really lend itself to being a high powered car, and a lot of the potential power is wasted in that form factor. I love convertibles, in fact I love mine (not a 996 TT) but what I love about it is independent of it being a muscle car.

The 996TT begs to be driven faster and more aggressively than you are likely to do with a convertible.

My opinion only.

I like them both! They have their pluses and minuses. The cab is more noisy, and the ideal temp with the top down is 70-75 F. If I had to pick between the two, I would get a cab with a hardtop, although the hardtop will make groaning noises.

No one even a kid could not tolerate the rear seat of a cab for longer than 15 mins without a stuff like this
