Oil sender probably isn't dead. The connectors have just corroded. A little cleaning goes a long way.

I had the same failure, it actually was my fault when I did an oil change. Was mopping oil up in the filter housing with the filter removed. Used a paper towel. Quit sometime after the oil change, I started getting the same failure you noticed intermittently, then the failure stopped. Next oil change removed the filter to mop up the residual oil, thats when I saw a very small piece of paper towel by the sensor area. Removed it and never had another issue!
Lesson learned use a lint free cloth to mop up the residual.

of all the cels to get ( a bright red heart stopping oil can!.. perfect! .. ).. all for the twist of a couple of connectors. hope i never see this. but at least i'll know what to look for.

Bump for truth! Light came on today, at 39,500 miles. Any idea how much it would cost to have a shop do it?
