What mode was the V1 in?

The key to successful radar detection and speed mitigation is receiving an alert early enough to reduce speed prior to the radar's maximum speed reading range. The radar's maximum speed reading range isn't normally employed by law enforcement, so using the maximum range as the closest you want to be to the radar while still in jeopardy based on your speed is a conservative and prudent approach. Because of the 996 Turbo's size and relative low radar cross section, all of your listed radar detectors are capable of detecting the radar far beyond its maximum speed reading range of the Turbo, allowing the driver plenty of time to reduce their speed. Of course if the officer is employing the radar in an instant-on manner, and you encounter this arena as a single target, then the officer can wait until you are well within the "kill zone" before triggering the radar and reading your speed. In this case your detector alerting is simply informing you that the officer already has your speed. So the hope is that the officer is in the constant-on mode, or is actively shooting cars in front of you in instant-on mode, allowing (in either case) your detector to receive enough radar energy to issue an alert well before entering the radar's speed reading zone.

The V1 is capable of detecting radar well outside the radar's maximum speed reading range.

Agreed, especially when on the plains - with nothing to obstruct. However, when I go through the mountains, there is, now with the new DSP, a noticeable improvement over the Valentine; which was set to city/highway, just kept making noise. I also noticed that in my M5CP, with radar-y stuff, (also the bosses new 991.2TTS), makes it go off non stop.

I have been using Cincinnati Microwave (Escort), Valentine and Uniden (scanner) radar detection products for 30 years and it just was curious to note that there has been a significant change in processing and warning.

In BC, especially on the highway, the Horsemen rarely drive with radar banging away - they key it - I believe the trick they are trying to employ is to trick those of us utilizing radar detection.

I also agree with that all radar are capable of reading a signal outside of their advertised ranges - especially on open ground.

How old is your V1?

As you may know, for the radar to successfully measure your speed it requires direct line of sight (LOS) to your car. However, radar detectors do not need direct LOS to the radar to be able to detect the radar signal.

Are you running your V1 in Advanced-Logic mode?

Agreed, LOS is critical, however, when in the mountains, you want to know the Horsemen are coming around a corner ASAP. The V1 is a few years older than my Escort, so, 2012 - ish.

Don't get me wrong, I was a huge Valentine fan, I just don't think their engineering has kept up with the fellows over at Escort.

You may want to check with Valentine and see if an update is available for your detector.

I thought about that, then decided to get the full on jammer... Nice gear (my boss has one), but boy are they expensive. I have a ZR3 Shifter in my 996, but it clearly does not catch current wave lengths...

The combo of a latest gen V1 and V1Driver software on an iPhone is my magic combination. Awesomeness.

I, admittedly, have not used either 'Live' features.
