Speaking of which...

Too bad Porsche abandoned their Dakar motorsports interest years ago... Not at all hard to imagine a 911 body on one of these dakar race cars.

It's been a rough Dakar for everyone this year. The navigation tasks are brutal.

I'm riding buddies with several guys who have competed in the Dakar on motos... Bikes start first, but it is terrifying when they fall behind and start having the cars come blasting past. And COMPLETELY terrifying if they fall way behind and the trucks catch up. These days they have beacons that will warn the riders and drivers of each other, not that they slow down much if at all...

On top of being completely exhausted trying to get your bike unstuck again and again in the fesh-fesh.

My experience in driving in sand has been, 'challenging' to say the least.

I think that would be spooky to be on the back side of some dune, stuck, with a 15 ton truck flying over head...

***** of steel to run Dakar.

Its exhausting getting stuck in sugar sand in a 4x4 lol id imagine getting stuck in a bike and having to keep going and getting stuck again! Nothing is worse though than getting back wheels stuck in a gator infested swamp.

But you can't... Any given day might have a special stage with hours and hours of dunes followed or proceeded by a 200 kilometer liaison stage on paved roads.

One tire must do it all on any given day... pavement, rocks, sand, wet, dry, hot, cold, whatever. Particularly challenging on a moto, ridiculously challenging as a privateer doing their own maintenance every single night with no fleet of mechanics waiting in the bivouac.

I think he was talking about a flapper wheel being idiot proof in sand, which it isnt lol, you can just as easily dig yourself in if you dont know what youre doin.

I have knobby mud proto wheels on the Pioneer - they do not do well on asphalt...

I could only imagine what riding a bike with a flapper wheel would be like...
