I think they're smart. I personally wouldn't buy a 996 Turbo that I hadn't seen in person.

I pretty much wouldn't buy ANY used car that I hadn't seen in person. Too much risk with downside outweighing upside.

I flew down to San Diego to buy my Turbo in Dec. 2014, and I was prepared to fly home without it if it wasn't as advertised.

a few years ago, my brother bought a brand new C7 Corvette Convertible in Chicago sight unseen and had it shipped to the Bay Area, but with a new car there's no discussion, debate, or interpretation regarding condition.

Nice looking car.

My advice is to see it in person and take it for a test drive.

I have one, haven't put much time in selling it due to school and work. DM for additional details.

Good deal could probably be negotiated (no affiliation):

Very pretty car. She didn't deserve the take the "Walk of Title Shame", but not all accidents are avoidable.

Mid $40s ask for a Turbo S Cab 6-speed with 70K miles....good color combo. Don't know the history of course!

So here is where I get confused. Is it really a Turbo S? Maybe they removed the "S" badge from the back, but the gauge too? Thought "S" included the Ceramic Brakes?
I think this is just one of the few NON-S Turbo that where sold, which would explain the price, but I'm no expert.

VIN does not indicate it’s an S model.

Ok, followup question then. Does this make it "more rare" as only @ 120 Turbo Cab's (NON-"S") where produced in 2005?

It would make it more rare, but not any more desirable or valuable I think.

That's a tough question. It's rare for the one year, but not for the entire production run of 996 Turbo cabriolets. Whereas the 185 TurboS (coupe) figure represents the production of S-coupes across the entire run of 996's. I seem to recall there were something like 600 TurboS cabriolets produced for the NA market, much larger than the 120 (2005TT) cabs; but again this figure is across the entire production run. Personally, I would not distinguish between say a 2004 cab and a 2005 cab. I would select more based on mileage, condition, and service records. True single year rarity is the 2004 TTS, where two were made.

I saw something similar with the 993 Targa. Few examples were produced in 1998, but for valuation purposes, that year seems to be treated the same as other years with larger targa production figures even though 1998 was the last year for the air cooled cars.
