Default Anyone hear of ???

Has anyone heard of this guy from Digital Motorsports? He claims to have people in Germany with OEM Bosch software programming tools and can write custom software for any Motronic car including 996TT/GT2 without "hacking" the code.

is the person in charge of 9FF North America. I don't have any personal experience with him, but there was a thread a couple months ago about how horrible his company's customer service is.

Just curious because he has been contacting every PCA region asking to get a group of people together for tuning of their cars. He claims to have contacts in Germany with the OEM programming. However, knowing that the software is extreemly expensive $100k+ and if someone in the industry gave the software away, I'd imagine that person would never work in the industry again. That and the fact that if the software has leaked out it would be heard out on the Internet and to date, I've never heard of anyone claiming they have it.

He has no claims, he is full of crap. Don't deal with that bastard, he has been ripping people off, his claims are false, and his products void your warranty and your car will lose power if anything. He use to be in Jaguar and was chased out, then in Porsche and is being chased out now. Stay away and warn anyone else that he is just major trouble.

For custom applications, the best software programmer out here is Todd Knighton @ Protomotive. Period. End of Discussion. He is one of a select few in the world who can hack into the OEM code.

For more generic stuff, GIAC and PowerChip are both very good.

Guys,

Thanks but I don't own a 996TT, I'm one of the PCA membership chairs that he has contacted several times about a package price for our members to upgrade their cars blah, blah, blah. I have spoken with other membership chairs and apparently he is going through the PCA list and I wanted to get more information on this guy.

What would a person need to steal the code? Can this be downloaded from a 996 Turbo ECU? This guy has my ECU and for some reason will not return it. I am not sure if I want it back now that I think about what may have been done to it.

The Bosch codes are proprietary and encrypted. With the help of friends at Bosch, GIAC and PowerChip can crack and play with a lot of it. But it's not like you can just download the info and play with it.

So, if I understand correctly. If someone had the encrypted code as a base, all that would be needed is the ability to crack the encryption, and the code would be exposed for modification. Would this be a correct assumption?

The EEPROM can be dumped out the OBD2 port. There are protocol commands for reading and writing non-volatile memory addresses. To do so you need to unlock certain portions of the ECU. Basically this done by sending a security access request to the ECU, the ECU will respond with a 16 bit seed value and you reply with another 16 bit value. So all you need to do is figure out the algorithm used in this version of Motronic for calculating the key value and there are a couple of different ways of doing that. Dumping the ROM is the easy part; the real time consumer is disassembling the object code and figuring out what the RAM locations correspond to. Trying to figure out where all the correction tables are located and just what those corrections are can be a real b*itch.
