Default Oil change... Best filters etc

Just putting an Amazon order through (in the next hour or so) doing my first oil change soon.

Can someone recommend the best oil filter and do I need a drain plug washer. Figure in also need a porsche style filter wrench.

Sorry i know I should do my research but I figure it's a quick answer.
Thanks!!

Mahle OX1281D filter(could also use a Mann HU719/5x. or Hengst E14H D77), any 76mm-14flutes wrench
Should replace the drain plug washers, but can also probably re-use the old ones in you're in a jam...

For my Cayman S I ordered a filter mail order and when it came in it didn't look like what I remember. I bought a factory filter at the dealer and compared them side by side and decided based on the difference in height and the end construction to go with the filter I bought at the dealer. I tossed the mail order filter.

You should always replace the filter housing o-ring(s) and the drain plug washer.

This washer is a sealing washer and plays not only a critical role in keeping the drain plug leak free and tight but preventing any damage to the critical sealing surface of the engine block and oil tank.

Reusing the sealing ring can mar these critical sealing surfaces or result in a fractured sealing ring which can result in a leak or the loss of the drain plug.

I buy a couple of extra sealing rings and keep spares in the center console of both cars.

I'm wondering if there is a fleece alternative to the paper oil filter, like there is for Mercedes? Something like the HU718/5x:

I have bought filters before and wasn't happy with the appearance almost looked like knock offs= I threw them away. I buy mine from dealer or reputable vender from here or 6spd now with no problems. I do use wix on my wife's Toyota and like the quality..

Good info. I have heard that online is crawling with Chinese knock offs. Which is a quite concerning considering how important of a role the filter plays.

I've used wix before too for my other vehicles. And have actually cut open the filter to see the construction, they are top notch.... But I might go and pay a premium and just get it from the dealer..... I just hate supporting the a$$raping they do with their prices.

There are dealers here that discount nicely, I buy OEM from ECS tuning and have been happy also.
