Does your Fabspeed fit a 2002 6MT 996TT? Would consider taking it off your hands.

I like the cross flow types...speed tech, switzer, etc.

My car has a Switzer and it is a work of art in terms of welds and such. Search youtube to find how it sounds. GT3-like is what the instructors said at VIR. Has NO issues at all.

(just found this)

The Europipes sounds nice and are works of art too..but are heavy.

John's is great too. (Speedtech x pipe).

REMUS do a good (70mm exhaust with 100 cell metal cats) for the 996T too. Had a chance to take mine out on track for some hot laps during a single-seater drive day and on coming in the crew running the day told me that it sounded awesome right around the circuit, with one of them even doubting that it was a turbo rather than naturally aspirated.

Are you saying you have a fab speed you want to sell? I have a bad cat which throws the CEL and I am looking at the fab speed stock TT muffler. Please email a pic and what you might ask to 997.alex@gmail.com also if anyone else has a muffler laying around that is fully operational, I would have an interest. Thanks TT people

Thanks we spoke today. That is the GT2 Fabspeed that the primary poster said is too loud. So I will continue to look for a quieter upgrade to my muffler.

Curious, for a turbo making approximately 800hp, what will be the best recommended exhaust? Want it to be free flowing, but not too loud as it won't pass the DE test.

Kenisis,

Here's some food for thought - We make our X-cellerator series X-Flow exhausts in both 2.5 and 3". The 3" version flows extremely well - you can hear the turbos spinning and whistling very clearly the whole time and it provides an extremely pleasing, fantastic exotic sound at part or WOT, as well. Great flowing system!

Our X-flow systems are modular and all of our components can be swapped or changed at any time - two options we offer for the full 3" system for a track or DE day would be:

1) Use our optional OEM tip pipe with your OEM tips for track days, This would allow you to neck down a 3" system to the OEM 60mm pipe size (just under 2.5") and cut down the volume dramatically.

2) Run our optional 2.5" track turn down tips - These reduce the volume and direct it downwards for an even quieter option.

This allows you to run the full 3" system for maximum performance all the time and swap out for track/DE days. Swapping is very quick and easy, no lift is required...it can be done in the garage the night before in under 15 minutes.

We have several 996TT 3.0 reviews in our testimonial link in my signature, some from fellow Rennlisters...

Seems like there are a lot of exhaust options. And lot's of video's showing how nice they sound. Only problem is, the video's are all from the outside. And if I buy a Turbo, I plan on being inside.

There are plenty of cars that sound great on the outside, but boring inside. So what would really convince me would be a very different video. It would (1) be recorded inside, ideally right by the driver's head. It would (2) include at least three cars: a stock Turbo, a Turbo with the exhaust, and the car we'd probably all like it to sound like: a normal 996 with the Porsche sport exhaust. (A GT3 would be nice too, but it revs so much higher that I suppose that's too much to ask.) And it would (3) go through the rev range at both half and full throttle, as well as holding constant RPMs at several reasonable cruising speeds. (If anyone sets out to make such a video, please bear in mind that the relevant cruising RPMs are a bit higher for those of us who are lucky enough to live near an Autobahn - so if recorded in the US, perhaps use 3rd gear :- ) .)

(Someone did post a link to a Youtube video of a few laps at Laguna Seca, but it was quieter than I can remember any car being on track (not just engine/exhaust, also wind & tires), so it may have been a poor recording - I fear that if a phone was involved, there may be some noise cancellation technology at work ... )

I think one factor being overlooked with a free flowing exhaust is the change in turbo lag. I put an AWE on our X50 and not only did the exhaust note improve but the annoying turbo lag all but disappeared. The stock system would bog up to about 3-3.2K and suddenly kick ya in the pants. With the AWE, acceleration is much smoother/stronger. And did I mention that is sounds much better too?

;-)
