996 TT - Exhaust Recommendations

r10 - some aftermarkets have a loud drone while cruising and will take the enjoyment out of a drive. Some on here have switched due to the drone. You may be inside, but if you have the dreaded drone it may make you change over again! You can get a good aftermarket performance setup which does not drone!

I recently fitted a Kline exhaust system and I absolutely love it, raspy, low deep sound and not too loud with no drone at cruising speed.
It now sounds like a souped up Porsche flat six with a racy edge to it.
IMO the car seems to have more power with a quicker throttle response as well.
I am usually quite fussy and very sensitive to droning, Kline was very understanding and
easy to talk to, they custom made my exhaust to suit me, they even threw in the cat bypasses
which can easily bolt in if I have the urge to make it louder but they got it right just the way it is.
This is my honest opinion and sports exhaust sound is very subjective.
I have no affiliation with Kline, I hope this helps.

After reading and listening to these exhaust options, Im really stuck between 3 exhausts. Top to bottom . . . Most important factors being:
1) Sound -Exotic, no drone (cabin, can hear my stereo well when desired)
2) Price point
3) Power gain/ weight save
4) Tip styling
Im stuck between the Speedtech (Quiet), Kline, and iPE Valvetronic. Someone want to help me pick. Its a close call here.

I've got the Kline and love it, sounds like a proper flat 6 boxer engine.
Not too loud yet growls like an angry snarling bear, best part is that it sounds great on the inside as well.

sbefar,
After looking at your priority list....Our greatest time and efforts were spent refining number one of your list - we tried every X-design before our final choice of the internal X design, which we felt offered the best exotic sound we had ever heard on the 996TT. Two, we also have special Rennlist member pricing - feel free to email me about our special pricing. Our system comes in at about 29 Lbs. including cats, all clamps and tips - a considerable weight savings. We offer a large single tip, dual tips or a re-use the OEM tips option. Our standard single, rolled edgeround tips were sound engineered to work in tune with our system to bring out the most exotic sound possible - we tried over a dozen tip designs to get the final sound just right...
Also, if you click on the testimonials link in my signature, you can see what numerous owners, many of them Rennlist Members, are saying about our 2.5 system.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me - I would be happy to answer any questins you may have...
Best Regards,
John

Thank you guys. From what is available online sound clip-wise, the Speedtech 2.5 and Kline sound very similar its tough to discern, both very nice. Does anyone know the db levels on these? I know iPE is 107db +- valves closed. Lastly, has anyone seen anything much different show up on the dyno between these three?
iPE sounds slightly more F1 -ish but I can't find a clip of a catted setup, its certainly pricier, lovely tips tho.

I have a Europipe Stage 2 quiet for sale if anyone wants the a quality system for $4100 shipped. PM me if you're interested.

I also have a Kline system. Very comfortable while cruising with no drone (almost as quiet as stock). As mentioned, when you get after it, it is quite aggressive sounding. I have not heard a speedtech in person, but I would say it sounds higher pitched and closer to an NA car from the videos I've watched. The Kline is more throaty but you can definitely tell it has that classic flat six Porsche sound. I don't have any DB numbers, but at full song, the Kline really growls and will turn some heads.

Europipe, for some reason doesn't have much of a sound distinction to me, sounds like the stock exhaust only louder, still decent tho.
I think Im down to Speedtech and iPE after listening very closely to clips and the refinements that been incorporated into both. Lots of glowing reviews on the Speedtech. I do like the iPE tips the best, the valve remote options and the slightly extra F1 sound top end, but I'm not sure I can justify spending 10%-12% of my car's value on an exhaust system . . . . i could be convinced otherwise if someone has a strong opinion. Thx

I just bought a 3.0 X from John. I am sure the 2.5 is right for you but one thing I will say. The customer service is unmatched. John has helped me with many other issues, answered emails at all hours of the night, etc. A true business owner that is passionate about what he sells.
Good luck with your choice!!

love my Milltek...lots of compliments on it
if I was looking at buying right now, I would be strongly inclined to look at Kline or Speedtech...

I purchased the car with a Europipe Loud and it is really the best of many worlds, quiet in the cabin but has enough note to raise your adrenaline when you get on it, outside, sounds sporty, exotic...... my wife says she can hear me blocks away (laughing) even though it does not drown out the stereo or is too loud / aggressive for conversations in the car, but it definitely is not as loud as the 3.0 Loud in the video above.

someone needs to buy 911-ALs Europipe system. Have had Europipes on two different cars and think highly of them - obviously
And, to the best of my knowledge, no longer available new
I have the quiet version, and my wife states she can hear me from a couple of blocks away, but never got a complaint from neighbors
Mine is a DD, and I drive in and out of my neighborhood at all hours of the day and night. My choice was made after considering the impact on those who live around me.
