Default 996 TT - Exhaust Recommendations

I have a Fabspeed GT2 exhaust on my car. Supposed to make some nice HP numbers. Don't know. Have not dynoed the car. But I hate the exhaust note. It's loud but in a bad way. It's very deep and doesn't sound all that great at WOT. In fact it bothers me greatly. Wondering if there are any higher pitched exhaust systems out there that perform as well. Any suggestions??

Thanks!

Gary

Europipe, Speedtech- both seem to be good choices with minimal drone.

How old is the system?

Does it have catalysts?

Gary...I have the Gen 1 version of the Fabspeed GT2 exhaust and I found it to be too loud as well. I needed it quieted below 98db for a DE. I installed Car Chemistry Inserts (baffles) just before the exhaust tips and now love the sound. Rich and throaty with a bit of turbo whirr and only 90db.

I recently fitted a Kline exhaust system and I absolutely love it, raspy, low deep sound and not too loud with no drone at cruising speed.
It now sounds like a souped up Porsche flat six with a racy edge to it.

IMO the car seems to have more power with a quicker throttle response as well.

I am usually quite fussy and very sensitive to droning, Kline was very understanding and
easy to talk to, they custom made my exhaust to suit me, they even threw in the cat bypasses
which can easily bolt in if I have the urge to make it louder but they got it right just the way it is.
This is my honest opinion and sports exhaust sound is very subjective.

I have no affiliation with Kline, I hope this helps.

Hi Gary,

Our 996TT 2.5 X-Flow systems are high pitched and sound very much like a 997 GT3. I am familiar with the type of sound you are descibing and we have spent a lot of R&D time on the sound quality of our X-Flow systems and gone to great lengths to create something very different, unique and exotic sounding for the 996TT. You may want to read our testimonials in the link below to get an idea what other forum members are saying...

Many of our very satisfied owners are members here on Rennlist. As for performance, this is another area we took seriously - catalytic converters are the largest restriction on an aftermarket exhaust. We use 100 cell high flow cats for improved turbo spool and sharper throttle response vs. 200 cell cats used on many other systems. IMO, by the desciption of your post, I feel certain that you would be extremely pleased with the dramatic change you would experience by installing our 2.5 X-Flow system.

We also offer special discount pricing for Rennlist Members - feel free to PM for details or if you have any questions. We are 996TT owners, so we know this exhaust catagory very well.

Thanks for the comments. For sure I'm not complaining about Fabspeed performance. Just want to cruise without the drone. I didn't mod the car, bought it this way. Found the original owner and he seems to have spent a on ton on the car which makes me very happy. Better him than me. I'm told I have Stage II programming as well. Not sure what that does other than more HP at the crank. Seems the programming, exhaust, cold air and other changes were completed about 6 years ago. The cats are 100 cell. My car is a rocket and I don't want to change that! Have been told that exhaust mods and turbos equal a good amount of RWHP and my current exhaust is supposed to add like 38? Really hate to lose that but it's too hard to enjoy the car as it sits. And I do have a hard time believing I can add that much RWHP with an exhaust change. But I'm new to TT's.

Thanks again for the comments.

Been through 5 exhausts so far and settled on Speedtech 3.0 with 100cel and love it. I have smaller 2.5" tips that are easy to swap if I want it a bit quieter or for certain tracks like Laguna.

A few laps at Laguna with this exhaust. My gps was off hence the wrong speed delays, but you can hear the wonderful sounds.
