Default Could Coil Packs Due This?

Been searching threads here to see if I can find someone else with my issue. If I gradually raise the RPM to about 2,000 the motor will fall off to around 1,800 before climbing back up. This is sitting in place. When driving and if I back down say in third gear a bit and then give it some gas, I feel a hesitation that in essence causes a little 'jolt' to the driveline. Kinda like a little shudder. Very irritating to say the least.

My TT is new to me so I'm still trying to feel things out here. Anyway, could coil packs cause this? I'm sure there are lots of things that could. Really wondering if anyone else had a similar issue and how it was solved.

Thanks!

Gary

MAF, I had very similar symptons and did coil packs, that didnt solve the issue. I posted a thread on this forum detailing the whole process.

Get the codes read before randomly switching out parts.

Quick and free way to verify the MAF- unplug the MAF and drive the hell out of the car. If problem goes away, it it the MAF-

You will get the dreaded PSM/ABS code for a failed MAF. However, a sensor with diminished capacity such as a MAF and/or wideband O2 WILL impede the performance of your engine.

At a few miles over 20K, the first thing that I question is the service history with the spark plugs? Have they been changed.

I make the recommendation to change plugs (Bosch FR6 LDC) coil packs (Bosch), MAF and wideband O2 sensors when one does not know the history. I Guarantee that your engine will run smoother. IT is money well spent. MAF's that have not been changed within 3 to 4 years, please change them. We have had a recent thread with run issues for boost that were caused by a diminished MAF.. NOT a FAILED MAF, but a diminished MAF. O2 sensors need to replaced within 10 years of service (my opinion based on hundreds of customer datalogs) and before 50K miles (based off of Bosch website).

Please note for the OP. You will have a slight bump between 1800 to 2200 RPM's this is your low lift high lift inlet valve tappets. You will also have the vario cam module bump betwen 2800 to 3400 RPM's (more pronounced).. Engine spark plug "shake" usually comes into play at around 4200 to 4400 RPM's under FULL WOT throttle.

Cheers!!

I am getting a hesitation at around 2000rpm and low throttle openings which is a PITA in traffic. I suspect my plugs, O2 sensors and plugs/coils are all overdue though. I think I'll start swapping bits out as maintenance over the next while and will be itnrested if the hesitation goes away. It makes it very hard to drive smoothly at low speed!

Cheers Ben

As someone earlier noted, pull the codes and see what they tell you. Unless you enjoy chasing geese.

BTW, I was getting a slight jumpiness with the throttle at low RPM and cleaned my MAF which made the problem go away. You might try that as it only costs a couple of bucks for a can of MAF cleaner.

But while your at the autoparts store, have them pull the codes and post them up.
