It definitely was when it came out in 1991. It also put all other manufacturers on notice that they better get their stuff together ASAP.

leftlane - Still not convinced, was not in the same league as FerrariF50 & 550 Maranello, Lambo Diablo,
MaLaren F1, Jag Xj220,Buggatti EB110, Bentley Hunaudieres!

Exotic yes Supercar No
A little wishful thinking!

100% correct. But remember the came out in 1990. Compare it to the 348, 964 911's and other comparable sports cars/super cars back then. Jag/Aston/Maserati had nothing like it, Audi wasnt on the map. The cars you listed are 3-5 times the price of the 1991 NSX which had an MSRP of $60k. Think about it, It was a real game changer.

Sadly, It never grew up and changed with the times. The 2003 Acura TL Type S had as much horsepower as their 2005 NSX $90k "exotic supercar".

Jag surpased it with the XJ220, which was deemed a supercar exceeding the 200mph mark. Yet again the others you listed were not in the supercar categories either, except there was a 911 Supercar it was the GT1. So the point is, NSX is an exotic. The NSX did not have tthe performance of the 90's cars that were deemed supercars. Yes the so called supercars of the 90s were high ib price. I agree the price for the NSX exotic put it in affordable sports car category, but keep in mind even today the so called supercars are way up in the price ranges too, excluding the ZR1 and GTR eventhose excee the 100K mark when outfittedand have the perfomance to keep up with some of the high end supercars.

Default NSX vs 996tt

We'll see if the new NSX falls into the super car category or if it falls short like the LFA.

I agree that the last gen NSX is a Exotic ( by design not finish nor materials ) but not a super car. As far as handling, out of the box it is Far better then the 996tt. Anyone who says otherwise has obviously never driven the NSX hard.

Actually the most exotic part of the NSX was the materials - aluminum construction, titanium connecting rods, etc. The fit and finish on mine was perfect and the everyday reliability was excellent. Just because it wasn't priced out of the stratosphere doesn't mean it wasn't a supercar. I'd also have to question how you think the LFA falls short - methinks you might be biased against the land of the rising sun.

I have thousands of laps at Mosport and I drove my ex NSX as hard as I think that car could take. It was fast, but it was not a better handler than my TT is.

Both cars with coilovers. The NSX had tons of NSXR chassis mods too.

I guess to each their own ... My 996tt with dialed in Pss10s felt like a heavy pig on steroids to me. It was fun but never a musical art form close to or at the limit.

Don't get me wrong....I love the Jap cars. I they just seem to fall short as a total package. For example the Nissan GTR. Not quite Exotic and not a Super Car but with Super Car performance. So confused !!! It's like a Z06 Corvette.

If I could, my DD would easily be a GTR.

PS. Apples to apples...the LFA falls short in performance and handling compared to most of the other Exotic Super Cars.

Supercar is usually dictated by performance, unfortunatley, price seems to follow. THE GTR does enter Supercar performance. The NSX never had the overall performance hence never making it to supercar status.

So does that make a ZO6 a super car??

I would lean towards....NO

Chevrolet Corvette Z06, is considered a supercar by many due to its acceleration, handling and speed to weight ratio. Anorther consideration is its a step above the standard production level. The same as the Dodge Viper.
