Long story short, I bought my 2003 996tt x50 in summer. What an awesome car for a bargain. Drove it for a month or so. Loved how it pull at high end, but I need to do something about the K24 lag at low end. My last car was a 2001 Audi S4 with k04 turbos upgrade and other goodies so what thing was fast with minimal lag. I called up Kevin@UMW for a x50 tune with wastegate kit due to the glowing reviews around here. The transaction was a breeze and Kevin was very helpful on the phone and through emails. I flashed the ECU first and decided to put the wastegate kit on later since I've been busy with work. Happy with the increased power but I was not blown away. But I figured I will re-evaulate after I put on the wastegate kit and a proper exhaust.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I finally had a chance to put on an AWE exhaust and the wastegate kit. Man... what a difference! The boost came on much early and was I seeing boost peaking at 1.3-1.4. The pull is relentless as soon as the boost came on all the way to redline. Needless to say, I am now an UMW believer.

Thumbs up

Excellent! I just placed my order with Kevin for the UMW tune, data logger, and wastegate kit.

*I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for a deal on a used Europipe.

I don't want to be a kill joy.. The 1.3 -1.4 bars I hope isn't sustained.. If it is, you have a wastegate issue. Something is binding the actuator rod, or a internal actuator leak. Pump 91 will not sustain the above mentioned boost.

So a friend of mine recently installed a tune, not sure what brand. He says it is around 550 hp and his is a non x50 car. Soon after the install his clutch went out, 2001 with 51k miles. He said that he has read on 6speed that this is typical with a tune. What say the group? Do you need to upgrade the clutch? If so, what is the best way to go?

1.3-1.4 bar peak happened a couple times in 2nd gear. Otherwise i am seeing 1.1 bar consistently on full boost.

I sold that car about a year ago. It had Kevin's original K16/24 Hybrid Turbos and his tune. BTW, the car was at "full weight" except for the GT2 wing/wiper delete and a track seat/rollbar. I was running on NT01s and the car still had all its other modern conveniences, but a lot of suspension and brake upgrades to keep the 3400# porker on the tarmac.

MMporsche, most of us have experienced that. It's not uncommon when upping the torque and HP to cause the clutch to start slipping. These stock clutches are really designed for stock power. Step up the power even by 10% and you're running the risk of it slipping.
